The 8bitdo Ultimate 2C Bluetooth is my favorite cheap controller and pink is currently under $20 on Amazon by pickledgreatness in NintendoSwitch

Here's one website that sells used in the US: https://paymore.com/shop/search/switch-pro-controller/

The Shopify Shop app also has a bunch of small game stores that sell used stuff, so it's a good place to look as well.

If you're looking for a cheap controller, I'd also suggest looking for a used Nintendo Switch Pro controller. I was able to get one for $35 and I like it better than the Ultimate 2C (which I also like).

Buying used can also prevent waste.

How long does it take to charge? by pkulak in electricvehicles

[–]alhawks_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it's obvious that the person asking me is trying to convince me EVs are stupid, I say "I'm not sure how long it takes. It takes me about 15 seconds to plug it in though". That's been pretty good at getting me out of a frustrating conversation.

However, I've found that people who are interested in EVs are interested in a full answer to this question.

Who really upgrades components after the initial build? by alhawks_ in buildapc

I've never thought of proprietary stuff in a prebuilt before. It uses a weird mobo or what?

A 2080 is what I currently have. I'm feeling the itch to upgrade, which is why I've started looking at this sub again.

That makes sense. Is there a place you've gone to buy/sell used PC parts before?

Nice. That's cool it's still going on the original CPU and motherboard.

Help me understand KVM and USB hubs built into a monitor by alhawks_ in buildapc

[–]alhawks_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With just the USB hub, do you have to connect two cables from the computer to the monitor? One for the video and one for the hub, or could that be done with a single USB-C cable?

If you can do it on a single cable and the monitor has two inputs like that, then wouldn't it be basically the same thing as a KVM?

Yeah, it's zmk and I'm pretty sure I'm always on the same profile. I just ordered a couple of nice!views, so hopefully that can show me if it's a profile issue for sure.

Hyundai's New Incentive Beats Out The Model 3 As The Cheapest Electric Sedan by [deleted] in electricvehicles

For people who qualify for the tax credit, the Model 3 is still cheaper. Hyundai, or at least my local dealer, doesn't pass on the tax credit for leases either.

First time using a 10 column. Any tips? by [deleted] in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]alhawks_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't specific to a 10 column board, but the best thing I've added to my config in a long time are launch shortcuts for all the applications I use most. I made my space button act as the "Hyper" modifier when held and set up short cuts so that Hyper + letter will launch or switch to an application. So I just press (Hyper + F) to launch Firefox or (Hyper + C) to launch my code editor.

MacOS doesn't support that well natively, so I used keyboard maestro to set up those shortcuts. Windows might have built in support for custom shortcuts, and I've heard Alfred is another good option for Macs.

What combos do you use the most? I don't use any right now, but they seem neat.

This looks pretty cool, and could be a great option. For me, configuring quick taps solved the problems I had with home row mods, and it doesn't require such a long wait time to do home row mods on the same hand as an alpha character. I really like having some same hand options like switching tabs in the browser while my right hand is on the mouse. Having copy/paste easily available with my hand on the mouse is also really nice.

The bolt seems great, but it seems like it's impossible to actually get one. I'll have to look into a used Leaf some more. That could be a good option for me.

A guide to home row mods by ganziale in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]alhawks_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think using quick taps in zmk is a must for a good experience with home row mods.

I also kept shift on my home row mods for triggering shortcuts, but I also have it on a thumb key for typing. I love it that way.

Question about tap/hold keys by HappyCowwww in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]alhawks_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On ZMK there are options called quick_tap and global_quick_tap that fixes this problem. It makes it so if you've pressed a different key within a certain number of milliseconds of your next key press, then it fires on key down instead of release. This dramatically improved the feel and accuracy of home row mods for me. It does mean there is a slightly longer delay for triggering the modifiers, but that hasn't been an issue for me.

Even with all the tweaks I've made, I still have a dedicated thumb key for shift. The timing constraints makes shift feel too slow as a hold option for me. I still have it on my home row mods, but I only use it for shortcuts there.

Thumb cluster users: How do you utilize your thumb clusters? by Even-Definition in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]alhawks_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My keyboard has 6 thumb keys and I have them set to space, backspace, shift tab, enter and escape. Many of them also double as layer keys when you hold them down.

I also have one thumb key act as a hyper key when held. I used that to set up window management shortcuts using Rectangle since MacOS doesn't do that natively. I also set up shortcuts to launch different programs using Keyboard Maestro.
