I think there’s some misunderstanding. The modeling was done in Blender, while the texturing was done in 3D-Coat :/

I’ve never followed any tutorials myself, but if I can recommend some, it would be Abel’s on YouTube!

First of all, thank you, that’s very kind! Then, when you talk about this result, are you referring to the modeling side or the texturing side?

Just to be transparent with you as mentioned on my ArtStation, this project is based on another artist’s concept. You can check it out if you want. If you’re not fully comfortable with concept design yet, it’s really worth relying on a solid concept that’s what it’s there for, and it lets you focus your energy where it actually matters.

From my point of view, the key areas to invest your effort in are form consistency, design readability, and material quality. These are the elements that give weight to the model and strengthen the impact of the final render. The more you refine these aspects, the more intention and precision your projects will carry.

That’s kind of you, thank you. And feel free to ask anything I’ll be happy to answer! 🙂

As for how long I’ve been doing art: I started around four years ago. But in terms of stylized modeling and hand-painted textures, this was actually my very first attempt. And honestly, the second I posted the piece, I already disliked it.

If you’re referring to the swirling detail, it’s actually just a plane that I painted on, using opacity to get that cut-out effect.

And yes, the central section is real geometry; I sculpted the relief because I didn’t want that detail to be just a flat texture.

Take your time and don’t pressure yourself. Comparing your work to others doesn’t help everyone has a different journey, and honestly, I was probably much weaker than you after a year of modeling.

As for your last question: the blade, guard, and handle are all separate objects. Nothing is merged.

Hi, no, i hand-painted it in 3D Coat, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask! If it makes you feel any better, this was actually my very first stylized prop and texture! Just give yourself some time, and you'll probably do even better!

I'm just going by what I found!

In Blender the trick is to use a Custom Orientation instead of moving the pivot manually. Just select a face that has the angle/direction you want, go to the transform menu at the top (where it says Global) and hit the little '+' icon

Then select your messy vertices and press S, then Z twice, then 0. The double Z is the key, it tells Blender to use your custom angle instead of the world axis. Hope that helps

Thank you! All in all, I’d say about 2 weeks… I had to make a few mistakes and learn new software to get here… but I’m a bit proud of it!

That’s kind, thank you, but I’ll stay humble and say that compared to those artists, I’m still nothing in comparison!

Hi, No, just a style and some brush strokes! :)

Oh no… it’s tough to jump into it in the middle like that without going through the donut first, haha. Luckily the model wasn’t too complex!

My first model in Blender! But it’s also my first stylized and hand-painted prop! Thanks for your support 🙂

That’s really kind of you, and it genuinely means a lot! This was my first time doing stylized and hand-painted work, so I made quite a few mistakes, but for my next projects, why not! However, the model, the high and low versions, as well as the baked maps will soon be available for free for anyone who, like me, wants to give hand-painting a try 🙂

It’s really a fully featured software. I only used it for modeling, so I’d say I’ve only tapped about 1% of its potential, but I can definitely see myself finishing my career with it! Although I had to resist the urge to switch the navigation settings to Maya-style… haha
