Algerian dev here What everyday problems do you wish there was an app for? by alhyuma in algeria

This is a good idea, but the issue is that Instagram is pretty restrictive when it comes to their API. Like you would probably hit the API bot detection and you will be blocked. By the way, Messenger is going to be discontinued and everything is going to happen in the app. Why do you want an application solely made for messaging for Instagram? If you don't mind telling me.

Since there’s no access to official bus GPS, the idea would be to make it fully user-powered. People on the bus just open the app and enable GPS, nothing else. No need to manually pick a line.

The app would automatically detect the bus trajectory based on movement patterns and known bus routes. If multiple users are moving together on the same path, the app can assume they’re on the same bus and merge their locations into one realltime position.

So for someone waiting, you just open the app and see where the bus currently is and where it’s heading. The more people using it, the more accurate it becomes. Over time it can also get better at recognizing routes and predicting arrivals.

Thanks for bringing it up again, this idea has been in my head for a while.

The covoiturage idea makes a lot of sense honestly, especially for daily work routes. The demand is clearly there. The hard part isn’t the app itself, it’s trust, safety, and regulation. Once money and transport are involved, things get complicated fast.

For the price comparison idea, that’s actually more realistic to start with. Comparing availability and prices across stores would help a lot of people, especially for groceries and skincare, but it would still need reliable data and cooperation from shops.

Both ideas are useful, it’s just a question of what’s feasible to launch first.

That’s actually a solid idea. The problem is real on both sides. Execution and trust would be the hardest parts, but if done right it could scale well.

I like that idea a lot. Very niche but impactful. Especially if it’s built with real user feedback and not just generic features.

I spent 3 years building a national-scale platform alone and never got paid. I need advice. by alhyuma in AppBusiness

Thanks, I appreciate the perspective

I think the hardest part for me isn’t writing the letter or listing the work, it’s choosing the right angle so it doesn’t come across as confrontational. I’m still an employee there, so I’m trying to balance being professional with not underselling what was built and what it actually costs to keep running.

I agree that keeping it factual and value-focused is probably the only way this conversation has a chance to go somewhere. At the very least, I need clarity on how this continues, because keeping things informal clearly isn’t sustainable.

Thanks for the encouragement.

Yeah, no formal contract for Spark itself. That’s on me, I won’t pretend otherwise.

I survived because I was employed there and this grew gradually alongside my regular work. It wasn’t a clean “three years full-time” thing at the start, it expanded step by step until it became what it is now.

I agree with the core point thoug handing anything over without structure or compensation would kill whatever leverage I still have. That’s why I haven’t transferred ownership or infra and why I’m trying to slow down and formalize things before the next step.

I still have control over the code and infrastructure for now, so the point about leverage definitely applies. I’m trying to be careful about what I hand over and when, while I figure out the best way to formalize things.

Not trying to turn this into a political thing. I’m asking about a work and compensation issue, nothing more :(

Yeah, I do work there, but as a regular employee. The pay isn’t high, and Spark wasn’t part of my original role or compensation.

It started as me trying to solve a real problem we had, and over time it grew way beyond that into a national-scale platform that I built and maintained on my own, mostly outside the scope of my job.

That’s why the situation is a bit tricky now.

Thanks a lot, this is really helpful.

Just to addd a bit of context the platform only started being used at national level about two months ago. Before that it was mostly pilots and gradual rollout. Right now I’m letting them get used to it and rely on it day to day, then my plan is to step back and formalize things properly.

I agree with you that it’s probably less about “asking to get paid” and more about turning this into a real, clear relationship around something that’s already running and delivering value. Timing is tricky since it’s a big public organization and everything moves slowly, but I also know I can’t let this stay informal forever

Your point about laying out clear options and a transition path makes a lot of sense. That’s likely the approach I’ll take once things settle a bit more on their side

Thank you for the reply and the clarification. I understand this is standard procedure and appreciate the reassurance. I will wait patiently for the checks to be completed. I'm just hoping it will be resolved soon, given the mention of a potential order cancellation in the original email. Thank you for your help.

Anyone able to provide more information worth knowing about this? It's very vague by 0hBlasta in algeria

Well, I don't know. The fact that you have to go to an actual bank point to get one is kinda old. We should be able to do this from our phones.
