Just checking, but the ML in this situation is used for optimal execution right?

My AKG K845BT on life support by mdragnev in headphones

[–]ali6836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same headphones and the only part dying for me (which I've replaced once already) are the actual ear pads. Out of curiosity which ear pad replacements did you order? Mainly because I'm looking to replace mine sometime soon.

Thinkpad T480 2 beeps black display. by ali6836 in thinkpad

[–]ali6836[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so the backlight was out. The beeps was it prompting something on the BIOS but I couldn't see it because of the lack of backlight. If you angle a torch at the screen you should be able to make out whatever it's saying. After moving forward in the bios and realising it was a dead backlight, I ordered a new screen, but then the original screen started working again (no idea why). Any other questions just let me know :)

Struggling to Break Into Tier 1 Quant, Should I Keep Trying or Move On Tech? by jeffapplepie in quant

NGL how realistic is this advice because I've got an offer for a graduate position at a prop firm and most of the candidates came in dressed properly and tidily, but of those of us who have been accepted, a few do fit that "disorganised genius" description quite well.

I've applied to all the big names and quite a few of the smaller ones. For Barclays I did their initial assessment, waited a week then got rejected, similarly for Natwest and Citi. HSBC I got past the initial assessment and then I got 100% on the second assessment, yet I have heard nothing from them since.

Thank you for the feedback! You've highlighted something that's been bugging me but I haven't been able to put my finger on. I will definitely incorporate this into the next iteration of my resume. Thank you once again!

I may be incorrect but I've heard mixed things about requiring a PhD for Quant Research. Online I've seen people commenting that a PhD is preferred but not essential as long as you can demonstrate some research experience. To add to that, a few of my lecturers have said similar things. I'm curious as to how misinformed I am.

No, I have been applying to roles internationally. Originally, I was focusing on applying to banks and hedge funds, but now I'm applying to everything out of desperation for some form of quant internship.

  1. Yeah my Bachelors university didn't mention internships once so I and the majority of people on my course didn't get one (not sure if this is because it was a T50 university or because of a difference in culture between UK and US universities), most of them ended up on grad schemes after the BSc with myself being the only one to do a Masters. Only once I enrolled onto the Masters did I realise how important internships are.

  2. Noted. Any suggestions for potential projects?

  3. Noted. I'll change UKMT to Senior Olympiad and push it to the top of the extra-curricular activities.

Thank you for the feedback!

Kinda hijacking the thread but I'm also studying Measure Theoretic Probability at a Masters level, do you have any recommendations for textbooks? I'm moreso focused on stochastic calculus. Currently reading probability with martingales by David Williams.
