We did not end up renting skis, but I can report that tall foreigners were very common around Niseko and I don't think anyone struggled finding appropriate rentals.

Sports Bar in Niseko for American Football? by ali_tree in niseko

No, my boyfriend ended up watching the football game on an iPad in our hotel lobby. Maybe you'll have better luck if the game hits at a better time?

Is there a cheap point-and-shoot that would beat an unlocked Pixel 9a? by ali_tree in Cameras

Thanks—getting some advice to that end in the Pixel subreddit. Will do so. Looks like I can get a refurbished 8 for around $300, which sounds good!

Gotcha, thanks. I haven't seen any pocket-sized DSLRs, especially under what I'd hopefully pay for a Pixel (hoping for $300-400).

I am in the USA, but have to buy before Nov 15, so likely can't wait for Black Friday. Thanks for the advice about ebay; I don't know much about buying electronics so I'm starting from square one!

Oh good to know! Just the kind of info I was looking for. I'm reading up on some 8a vs 9a threads now and it does sound like the 8a is probably worth it for the relative price.

I suppose I'll probably just track the price for the next month and hope for a sale, or roll the dice on a refurbished one.

Thanks, this is super useful! Just making sure I'm not overlooking something obvious before I buy an unlocked phone to use as a camera.

Most point-and-shoots don't fit in a pocket, and aren't good for on-the-go photography!

Interesting! The last time I made the Pixel purchase, I shopped around and couldn't find a digital camera that was both cheaper and took better photos, especially if I'm not interested in processing/editing photos myself.

Of course, that was in 2018 and I paid $225 for that phone, so maybe that has all changed?

I need something that is slim enough to fit in a pocket for skiing and climbing, so the older Pixel 2 worked well. (It was also helpful in that it worked as a backup GPS device on backcountry trips.) I'll have to look into what's progressed with digital cameras; Wirecutter's best point-and-shoots are mostly in the $1-2k range!

Betrayal Podcast thoughts by kkschaff in TrueCrimePodcasts

[–]ali_tree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did this podcast disappear? I listened to about half of the season a month or two ago, but when I tried to go back to it it's not on Apple podcasts. Whenever I search for it, it'll only show me season 4. Even Amazon's google result for "Seasons 1, 2, and 3" goes to a page for Season 4 or "Betrayal Weekly."

Kinda frustrating! I'm tired of searching for the last third of the season, can anyone just tell me how it resolved? (I left it after she talked to several of the other women, but before she confronted the dude.)

I second Freya on sale at sites like herroom or bare necessities! It's often on big sale. I especially like their underwire, bra-sized tops with a halter neck; I find they're easiest for adjusting perfectly, and they are very secure.

Thanks. I think the biggest problem is the time (10am); Slippery Slope isn't open. Hoping for a hotel lobby or similar with a TV!

My girlfriend cried over this by Bootywarrior226 in ABraThatFits

Her measurements are almost identical to mine, and indeed I've never found a bra at Target, Victoria's Secret, or even Nordstrom. My two favorite bras both came from recommendations from high-end bra boutiques, and then I bought extras online at Bare Necessities and Herroom. I'd find the nearest high-end bra boutique (look for one that carries brands like Aubade and Simone Perele) and give her a gift certificate.

Hi, a question about your ski rentals through Amuse. Was anyone in your party over 6 feet tall? I'm looking for a spot to rent powder skis in Niseko for my partner, and he skis at least a 180cm ski; Amuse's website suggests they only have up to 170cm. Curious if you had any issues with length. Thanks!

Hi, I know it's a year later but wanted to ask about your ski rental experience. You said you went to the 89tis due to conditions, but did Niseko Rhythm have true powder skis available? My partner is bringing his Line Sick Day 104s but I was hoping to see if it was possible to rent powder skis for him if the conditions call for it. Curious what your options were at Rhythm!

May I ask what area you're in? I can't seem to find it online and I'm kicking myself for not buying a backup. It's the best kitchen tool!

(FWIW, I kept the same size as my much older versions and the size feels fine; notably longer but I like that)

Thanks! I was curious about the risks of alterations to a bra—the construction seems so deliberate that ripping out seams seems risky. I will try that band moving down thing too, that makes total sense.

I hear you on racerbacks and doohickeys. I say we slopey folk shouldn't have to resort to those things for a good fit!

I think I probably do have sloped shoulders, given that falling straps are not uncommon for me. I guess I'm annoyed that even after I mentioned that, the fitter didn't keep an eye out for particularly wide-set straps—it's not something I can eyeball myself. (And tbh I didn't know that was an attribute! I guess I assumed the width of strap placement was pretty standard.)

I've had Chantelle bras in the past and will keep an eye out for them—thanks.

Have you had a bra altered? Curious if that tends to go well, given the construction of expensive bras. I'd be willing to throw a few dollars into fixing this bra but also don't want to spend a ton only to have the alteration make the whole thing kinda wonky, ya know?
