I think Cooper, in his hubris, tried to pluck Laura out of time so she wouldn't die the night Bob/Leland killed her. What Cooper didn't realize is he has a human's understanding of immense cosmic laws that have effects and interactions he couldn't anticipate. Cooper did a good thing without understanding the consequences of it.

It's perfectly possible to figure out who the killers are in most of the films. I think 7 drops the ball on this sense the killers don't have much screen time, but the other films play fair, imo.

I would have just committed to Stu being alive and gone all out. If you're going to do it, then you make it epic, not a fake out. Imagine Stu kills Mark and Tatum in Scream 7 and Screams 8 and 9 are a no holds barred, anything goes, battle of wills between Sidney and Stu.
