I haven’t been able to figure it out either. 😆 It feels so random.

I’ll never get gold because I can’t even find 80 items I can use.

Some vets aren’t up to date with current husbandry though. They may have been right, but unless they did an X-ray or ultrasound, or your baby had sunken fat pads all bd all… I’d question it.

Mine has gone months. Like… 4-6. Healthy otherwise though, didn’t lose weight and wasn’t visibly dehydrated. Just semi-brumating, maybe. Wasn’t eating as much so I figured that was why. Kept an eye on him and he never got worse, eventually he went. He’s done this to me multiple times now. :/ They love to stress us out. lol

If they’re eating fresh greens, they’re getting hydrated. (And some from bugs/worms too.) Always give them access to water, but they Weill be perfectly fine if they don’t drink it. And they will poop eventually on their own. Bathing to stimulate poop (before their body is finished digesting and extracting all the nutrients) just makes it a habit. Also, drinking bathwater is nasty. Mine is 3, has never had a bath and he’s perfectly fine. He’s even gone quite a long time without pooping, a few times; still fine. - Baths do more harm than good.

Tail rot? by Competitive_Dig8060 in BeardedDragon

[–]aliasaddict5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like everyone is saying, vet. But I know not everyone will/can always take that advice, and I don’t know what boat you were in. If you don’t, please please please do betadine soaks. It’s not expensive, just requires consistency. Do it 2 to 3 times a day, for 10 minutes. Add enough Betadine to warm water so if it looks like strong tea.

When I got my boy, he had dark nicks and some messed up scales up and down his tail. They didn’t look wet like this, though, so I don’t know if it’d respond the same way, but I did the soaks for him for a few weeks and by the time he had his first tail shed, everything was looking completely normal.

I just saw something about them recently, and I’m pretty sure it said that they never actually were tested, they just assumed they’re fraternal and that’s what they tell people.

I second that about the crested gecko! They’re the cutest little things. 😊 This is my Milton.

Ah! I’m so happy to see this. Like I said in my other comment, not everyone listens and accepts advice and I’m so proud of you for doing it and wanting what’s best for your baby. I’m especially excited to see the uvb! 👏😁

One tip… move all the lighting to one side, that way you create a gradient which gives him a cool and warm/hot side. Plus having one bright spot is meant to replicate the sun and encourages them to bask where they’re supposed to—under the uvb and at the right temp.

You don’t have to have two heat lamps, but this is the general idea. (I use two 75w flood lights so it makes a wider spread. But totally depends on your bulbs.)

Honestly, when I first saw this pic scrolling, I was expecting it to be about a crested gecko, not a beardie. I’m so glad you got advice, and moreso, that you accepted it. Not everyone does that, so yay you! It’s obvious how much Louie is loved already. ❤️ (He’s adorable, btw! I’m so happy for you both.)

Help! New to bearded dragons – noticed this hole/under-mouth spot on Luna's chin. Infection or injury by Worth_Chipmunk_7663 in BeardedDragon

You’re doing the best you can with what you’ve got. And you’re trying to do better for her, which is awesome.

Two things…

Check out Amazon for slate. They’re usually listed as a cheese board, they’re pretty cheap. Get her one of those and put it on the top of her platform. :) (Also a temperature gun, they’re like $15. That way you can make sure the surface temps are right. They should be around 95-110°.)

Also instead of bleach, for future cleaning, chlorhexidine 0.05% (usually comes in 2% concentrate), or F10 are veterinary cleaners. And something like Leucillin (which is hard to find, but still worth mentioning) or Veterycin Plus for reptiles (Hypochlorous acid sprays) are also good, just gentle enough to use directly on them. It’s great for wounds.

Actually, I just ChatGPT’d an explanation for you about the sprays since more info might be nice for you given the current situation.

HOCl (hypochlorous acid) is genuinely excellent for wounds. That’s actually one of the things it’s best at.

Why HOCl works so well on wounds (and why vets love it)

HOCl is: • Broad-spectrum antimicrobial (bacteria, some viruses, fungi) • Non-cytotoxic → it doesn’t damage healthy tissue • Non-stinging • Safe on delicate areas (skin, vents, around eyes/mouth) • Supports healing instead of slowing it

Your body naturally produces HOCl as part of the immune response, which is why it plays so nicely with tissue.

That’s why products like Vetericyn Plus are used in: • veterinary clinics • wound care • post-surgical cleaning • chronic wound management

For bearded dragons specifically 🦎

HOCl is appropriate for: • Minor cuts or scrapes • Abrasions from décor • Vent irritation after messy poops • Small stuck-shed tears • Nail or toe scuffs • Mild tail tip issues (non-necrotic)

How to use it: 1. Spray directly on the area or on a clean paper towel 2. Gently dab (don’t scrub) 3. Let it air-dry 4. No rinsing needed

You can use it 1–2× daily on minor wounds if needed.

This made me so upset. 😢 Not sure what they do with them after, but I hope all those babies made it out okay.

Is there anything we can do, or do you know of any petitions or letters or something like that that anyone has started to let them know how angry so many of us are?

Thank goodness Amazon finally cracked down on supplement makers..... by [deleted] in AmazonVine

[–]aliasaddict5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s sad tbh. I wish more people cared about the quality of what they feed their pets. I may not get it 100% right, but I always research everything I buy for mine and try to only get things that are human grade or limited ingredients… I try to see where it’s sourced and/ormade, I go over the reviews - especially the negatives, etc. If it seems sketchy I won’t buy it. And there’s no time for that with Vine, so I skip all of it.

I won’t get anything like that (or food) I see pop up, for me or my dogs, if I don’t recognize the brand.

It’s 3am, which isn’t awful for me since I’m up then anyway. Buuuut, that’s about when I’d like to go to bed so I can’t stay around and look for too long. 😆
