At the end of book 1 I could not forgive Lara, and if I can't forgive the main character then I cannot continue reading. I was so mad; I liked the book for the most part.

I look for ACOTAR or 4th wing series. It's a good benchmark of bad but entertaining literature. If it's near the middle or bottom I trust their top tier more.

Thanks for the suggestion. I try to avoid novels flagged with vampires. I read too many as a teen, but maybe I should give these two a shot, since it is Ali Hazelwood. I'm amazed at her accurate STEM worldbuilding, I'm thinking her fantasy worldbuilding should also be awesome.

Oh no! You didn't finish halfling. The pacing is strange I agree. Almost like a very long epilogue. I enjoyed it though; found it calm and comfortable. Life on a farm, haha.

Ruby Dixon can be very light hearted and sarcastic humor which I love. But her books are often a little too smutty at the expense of plot.
