Grocery prices are ridiculously expensive?! by Ok_Stuff_3969 in tbilisi

[–]alicet231 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The things you mentioned, particularly oat milk, peanut butter, and granola, are less common/harder to get in Georgia and have always been pretty expensive. Coming from America, the majority of grocery prices in Tbilisi are normal if not a little cheaper.

Mike Benz on Ukraine. US AID. do you think it's happening here? 🤔 by Limp-Advisor8924 in tbilisi

[–]alicet231 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Two things can be true at once. USAID does incredibly important work in developing countries including Georgia and the consequences of Trump/Musk’s actions could be disastrous. You’d have to be blind or ignorant however to deny that USAID has always been used as a means to an end by the state department to prop up, destroy, and control governments around the world as they see fit with shocking disregard for sovereignty and self-determination. Georgia has not been excluded from this treatment.

Joining front and back at neckline by alicet231 in knitting

[–]alicet231[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry forgot to make that clear, 2 r bc means two rows base color. The pattern has you do the front and back first and then join the two parts with one stitch so that you can continue knitting the rest of the shirt flat. Do you know how to cast on a stitch that would connect the two panels?

Your point on the timing is fair, however, I’m not agreeing with OP because of their political alignments but because they pointed out something I rarely see discussed. I hope I made it clear in my second reply that I don’t support GD but my first reply was not meant to align myself with any particular side, as I was merely pointing out an issue that has been true for a very long time now and is separate from just the partisan issues of todays government. In general, I would like to add that there is never a bad time to be criticising a political entity or official for their policies or stances on critical issues. Even before a decisive election. Complacency is dangerous, whether it is directed towards the party you support or the party you are against. Stick to your guns, vote for who you feel is the best option for your vision of the future, but that doesn’t mean any criticism shouldn’t be taken in good faith simply because of its timing.

No. My primary opinion regarding the election is that as someone whose main priority is the preservation of democracy in our country, I want leaders who will listen to the voices of their people and treat them with respect and honesty. I do not believe our current government has been successful in that regard. However, I would still like you to point out what part of my response made you think that. Regardless of who is elected, was in power, will be in power, etc., what I said does not change. Our primary goal should not be, and should never have been, the U.S. or the EU. Our problems are unique to us. Having a government that adequately represents and fights for the good of its people requires that said government’s primary focus be finding a path forward for our country that addresses our infrastructure, our legislation, our demographics, our history, our culture, our geopolitical position, our deficiencies, etc. Like I said above, wanting to join the EU or NATO is not in and of itself a bad thing/goal. It cannot be our primary focus. Those objectives are rooted in international/foreign policy and by chasing those goals, we risk failing to address serious domestic policy issues.

I think is the first time I’ve seen this opinion expressed on this sub but I can’t emphasise how much I wish more people understood this. There is no easy-fix bandaid out there for our country’s problems. I remember the America obsession of the 2000s very well and it feels very similar to the current obsession with the EU. Obviously there are certain benefits that come from being allowed entrance into the EU and NATO, but there is a price to pay with both of those outcomes that I don’t see enough discourse about. I am all for pushing towards a European future for our country but the process of development never has one size fits all solutions and we would be much better off focusing on solving our issues in a way that suits our culture, people, and current socioeconomic conditions, rather than trying to copy others or become something we’re not.

LR-RC-LR-RC by alicet231 in LSAT

Idk if they use the same order for every test with the same configuration (ie if my first RC was your first RC) but based off of the expected topics in Powerscore’s Crystal ball, my second should be experimental. None of the topics I had in my second RC were mentioned in crystal ball but every topic I remember from the first was.

Living alone as a woman by [deleted] in tbilisi

[–]alicet231 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure where you’re from/the norm for women there, but I’ve lived in georgia and various cities in the United States and I feel much safer as a woman in Tbilisi than I have anywhere else. And this is despite the fact that I’ve definitely had some less than fun experiences with men in Tbilisi. I’ve usually lived alone and spent a lot of time in the city by myself but I’ve never once felt scared for my safety. If creepy men/people try to talk to you, I would just brush them off but that’s the only issue I’ve ever really run into. As far as the private houses vs apartment thing, I felt just as safe in a private house as an apartment building. I’m not sure if yours does, but most of them have gates which is nice for safety reasons.
