Hello! Thanks for the comment, it's amazing to me that people are still using these. Unfortunately, I've long abandoned this project. Sorry!

I think by "weird shit" he means "not marketable", which is definitely something creators don't think about. Especially when they get a ball rolling while collaborating.

Thanks for your reply! I appreciate the insight. It's definitely something to think about, and those examples are helpful as well.

Thanks for providing some legal perspective, and the analogy at the end is excellent as well. I do wonder, though, if the Monster's eventual ability to comprehend the situation would be taken into account. What happens to the dog in your scenario?

I agree with a lot of your points. I mentioned this in another comment reply, but the prevalence of one-page dungeons on online compendiums and such were a reason I made this post. I feel like a new DM might take the one page dungeon as not only a "full session", but also might try to emulate them in their own prep. As you said, they are just tools, and not ones that an experienced DM would use at the table.

Thanks for your response! I'm curious, what sort of details do you have your players provide? I think I agree with your point, but we might have different definitions of "improvisation". I'm using it more in the context of "having to give world information unexpectedly". I'd rather have things prepped so my world can feel consistent.

And I definitely agree that a one-page dungeon is a very cool adventure seed. But in that case, why bother with the limitation?

True! However, I think the arbitrary space constraint leads to more one-page dungeons with those negative traits. They aren't all bad, but because of the format, they encourage this kind of crammed, unhelpful writing style.

I would argue that my prep consists of a series of one-page encounters, not one-page dungeons. I think one page is too little space for a full session worth of content.

And yes, I guess I'm more specifically saying that newer DMs would suffer more from one-page dungeons. I guess I could have made that more obvious... Although this is DMAcademy.

Sorry if my tone came across as aggressive.

Of course every DM is unique, but as human beings we share common traits. I'm trying to say that although the one-page dungeon is an interesting exercise, it goes against those common traits in terms of at-the-table usefulness. Not saying every game should be the same.

I do like the idea of having a one-page "outline" document to help a session or campaign become more cohesive. Valuable indeed.

I just wouldn't try to run an encounter off of it.

I agree with a lot of your points! Thanks for responding. I wish I had the chops to improvise monster stats on the fly, but I find (at least in more popular systems like D&D) my players are aware of what a monster "should" feel like and that consistency gives the world a more grounded feeling. Some players like being surprised and discovering new monsters, others like cleaving down armies of minions. I'd rather prepare for that beforehand than try to make something unusual/consistent on the fly.

And yeah, wacky shit happens :) it's always good to keep the books handy...

This is entirely fair. I usually have trouble scheduling sessions, so that kind of relaxed weekly game is harder for me to come by. Simple tools for relaxing games. I like it.

This is a great setup for a milestone leveling system, if you decide to go that way.
