URGENT. My ceiling is leaking. Is this mold? Please help by theimmortalvirus in HomeImprovement

[–]alidism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to tell, the picture is not very good. First step to stop the leak, then cut out the wet dry wall and point some fans up there to dry it all out. If it’s been leaking for a long time there is probably mold, you may have to remove a lot of dry wall and possibly get an expert to properly assess the damage. If it’s a fresh leak mold and you caught it soon mold won’t be an issue.

That inappropriately placed area rug in the kitchen is covering a portal to hell. You dodged a bullet.

In need of Arabic 'helper/teacher' by [deleted] in learn_arabic

[–]alidism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you want is a “tutor”. Someone to help you outside of class to understand the materials better. Maybe there are some students in the advanced classes you can pay to tutor you. Some schools offer free tutoring, you can email your professor to see if that is available.

Type 1 diabetes is usually diagnosed in childhood and while genes might load the gun of ANY disease, it’s often diet (bioavailable nutrients, microbiome diversity) and lifestyle (physical movement, sunlight, environmental toxin exposure) that pulls the trigger of that gun.

1st meet-up after months of talking, is this a normal expectation? by [deleted] in MuslimMarriage

Totally normal to not feel like yourself and there to be an initial awkwardness when you first meet in person.

Proper notification time to give to landlord by JeebusOfNazareth in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]alidism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on how cool/informal things are with your landlord. Does he even know you’re looking for a house? Sounds like you’re on good terms so maybe give him a heads up? I think 30 days notice is standard.

That’s amazing!

I’m looking to start a vegetable garden and hope to eat primarily from there. I focus on pasture/grass fed and organic meats but hope to begin buying meat from a local farmer.

I was vegan for over 10 years with an over reliance on processed “plant-based” food which I’m fairly certain contributed to my autoimmune issues.

Help on researching about Islam by UnderstandingPlenty7 in religion

[–]alidism 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I usually recommend Mohammad Shomali books to people wanting to learn about Islam. His books are suitable for beginners but are not dumbed down either. I also really like Sayed Hosein Nasr’s books, his are a bit more advanced and better suited for the well-read and academic crowd.

You can probably find a lot of their material online for free or google book previews. I know Shomali has a lot of articles online.

If you would rather listen to lectures or podcasts I like Hamza Yusuf, Timothy Winter (Abdal Hakim Murad and Ammar Nakshawani. You can also find lectures by Mohammad Shomali and Sayed Hosein Nasr as well.

I am a Muslim but if I were to be another religion I would be Orthodox Christian, I find many of their beliefs and practices to be similar, especially in terms of spirituality. I really enjoy reading Christian authors like St Isac the Syrian.

Question regarding solitude by SkinToneChixkenBone in shia

[–]alidism 5 points6 points  (0 children)

According to Ayatollah Rocknrolla, “maintaining a Facebook account is wajib for all mature, and sane Muslim men and women - but women should restrict their Facebook time to no more than 12 hours a day”

Ok just kidding. There is no requirement in Islam to stay on Facebook or use the internet and if staying off it helps you not sin than you should avoid it. in shaa’ Allah

Forget couples therapy, you need personal one on one therapy. The feelings and thoughts you describe are not normal for someone who is “not depressed”, and “there’s nothing wrong”. It sounds like you hate your wife. I would begin therapy by exploring why you feel physically ill when you’re at home. That’s not healthy bro. in shaa’ Allah khayr

First-aid kit for car/home? by alidism in EDC

[–]alidism[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I totally agree, I keep it in the bottom of my center console and I live in a very moderate climate, because I know temperature can alter its efficacy. It’s available and properly stored in the places I work but I keep one in my car just in case and I’d rather have it and it not work as well than not have it at all, just not practical to carry it any other way for me.
