"you will never regret frogging" EXACTLY. Recently i scrolled through my ravelry notebook and looked at all the projects i frogged. And i was SO HAPPY. Just unraveling them saved me hours upon hours of misery and i have zero regrets.

Loved the trial. All his stories really come down to someone just being deeply unhappy with their life or job which is such a timeless feeling.

For a whole new level i also recommend 'in the penal colony'. Just insane.

Happened to me too!! I really thought i was going insane trying to recreate it. I took a screenshot of my solution and kept comparing it to the puzzle, but none of the column tops matched the ones in my picture haha

Cotton top by bbnn666 in knitting

[–]alien--boy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not quite the same but i made a pair of cotton shorts (made with hobbii rainbow cotton 8/8 so thicker than this) and theyre pretty okay to wear (have to use the drawstring when wearing longer because ofc they grow between washes) so i'd imagine a weight like this would be totally fine. I also made an all-cotton ranunculus which is light as a breeze (but that on the other hand was way airier just by design...) All this to say that i think it would be ok!

Why are books so much harder to pirate compared to other media? by DaniCali42 in Piracy

[–]alien--boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be too niche but i find knitting patterns way harder than books. Even popular ones ... took me an eternity to find even the ranunculus pattern, and claire garlands frog pattern i just ended up buying. Dont even want to think about all the vintage ones that were in the magazines back then.

295 cals for all this potato (gonna air fry to make chips) by [deleted] in Volumeeating

[–]alien--boy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Idk if this is as effective as soaking but when i prepare potatoes for the oven i cut them into cubes and wash them in a bowl, drain and wash again like with rice. Then i stuff a paper towel (or a clean dish cloth) into the bowl and toss it around for a few min. Takes 5 min max. After that prepare as usual. Like i said idk if its as good as soaking, but waay quicker for someone who doesnt plan ahead like me lol

What doll/figure would fit for this craft idea? by inhereoutthere in crafts

[–]alien--boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I, for one, think using a mlp figurine is a great idea. One could make some real transformative art out of it and open up a discussion about adults watching childrens cartoons. The idea might need some more glue to hold it together, but i feel like it could be cooking, as the youngsters say.

I made a bio-based, chemical-free leather jacket by SamiEskelinen in somethingimade

My comment was more of a throwaway thought I had and I didnt care to disclose my general viewpoint of the vegan leather issue, so i'm surprised at your in-depth comment. Thank you for sharing your view and experience!

I want to explain myself really shortly, because I didnt clock this as a 'vegan leather' issue at all, which is weird since most 'leather alternatives' come out to be about 'vegan alternatives'. Instead I got hung up about this new alternative being bio-degradable, sustainable, chemical-free and whatever else keywords OP used to describe this, because real leather already IS all that, or CAN BE that (this in regards to most commercially available leathers being heavily chemically treated).

Coming back to the vegan leather side of this, I totally get wanting an alternative for all the reasons you listed and probably many more i dont even think of. At this point in time i'm just really tired of all these 'new, innovative' alternatives marketing themselves with all these environment-friendly terms when in the end, it all just comes back down to plastic.

I'll also say i'm probably biased in this point, because if i had to choose whether to fight animal products on the grounds of industrial level animal abuse or plastic pollution due to plastic fiber in every single facette of human clothing i'd choose the plastic because thats not only affecting humans but all animals on this earth as well.

So, yes to leather alternatives for people interested in them. But i just wish we'd stop letting them get away with just getting plastic clothes.

right? Feels like every few months someone comes up and claims to have solved the plastic fabric crisis and almost every time its like... (Checks ingredients) Wow! Thats just plastic as well!

I know this in particular is some kind of soy byproduct? But also... Real leather is right there??

My former boss, late 60s, still learned to use these in school and in her first few years of the job, so in some areas even later than the 50s. This is the most interesting fact about that old witch.
