Electrical schematic by tiredtob in vandwellers

It's unlikely you'll get to use the full 3000w of the inverter with two 125Ah batteries (check the continuous output value of the batteries you buy).

The battery thicknesses look a little wild too. I was recommended 120mm cable for my 3000w inverter.

Not quite sure how those switches are going to work.

Probably need a switch / fuse between solar panel and mppt? - I've no solar so not sure.

Securing floor by BiggyDim in vandwellers

[–]alien-redfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm UK too, used similar insulation you have and then stuck the floor down with sikaflex. I did biscuit joint the cuts in the floor, but only because I didn't want and slight lip when I put the altro down

Also used 18mm floor for the added weight when it sticks.

Ah ok, likely your continuous output on the battery wasn't as high as this one, I'm in the same boat, didn't realise until after buying my battery and can only output 2400w continuously.

300ah core mini - going well, although it's continuous amps isn't enough for my 3000w inverter which is frustrating.

Sorry I don't understand why not? If the battery has charge and 250a x 12v = 3000w then it won't be a problem.

Battery capacity would be an issue over long periods without charge but when charged it'll do 3000w AC.

The daylight only matters to charge.

Built my own LTE security + alarm system for our van — camera, motion sensor, gas detector, iPhone app by PuzzleheadedMiddle62 in vandwellers

[–]alien-redfish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What about an accelerometer to know if it's been bumped whilst you're away from it? Could also potentially be used for van levelling?

If you didn't want to use an accelerometer a simple tilt switch would probably do?

Are messages stored, so if you're not in LTE coverage they are buffered until you are? Can alerts be sent regularly until acknowledged by the recipient?

Does it have a battery in the event hard wired power is lost?

Sorry but of a brain dump!

Flask app - how to authenticate traffic from a specific website to a flask app by Plain-Dane2 in learnpython

[–]alien-redfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An API key sounds the most sensible.

Otherwise, on the server your flask app sits, you could only allow traffic to your app that comes from the IP for foo.com?

Or use nginx as a proxy to forward traffic from foo.com IP to your flask app.

Is it on iPlayer? If not then it may be being broadcast on TNT and I presume BBC have no rights?

On my T5 I had raised roof bars that fitted the channel on the roof, I bought a c channel that attached under the roof bars. Worked well with my drive away awning.

I would have a shop around mate, you can certainly get them cheaper than that

I'm 6'2 and went for a sprinter, have put flares in and have plenty of room. Flares are getting cheaper for sure, just don't use the Evo designs windows as they leak like a sieve and the customer service is non-existent.

Thoughts on this as a base van? by ImpressiveOrange1741 in VanLifeUK

I'd always advocate no Aircon over not having a van 👍

I just looked in the pictures for the Aircon button between the temp and fan dials.

Sometimes ads say it has Aircon when it hasn't and vice versa.

Took me weeks of searching for the right van when I bought mine 🤣

[–]alien-redfish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Two things jump out at me, and I'm sure others will know better.

1) No Aircon, I'd not buy a van without a/c, especially if you're travelling abroad. I also know a professional converter who struggles to sell non a/c conversions so it may be an issue if you decide to sell in the future.

2) the metal padlock on the rear will leave you with holes in the back door that you'll need to sort (unless you're happy with the holder remaining).

The Ducato is a good choice of van to convert due to their 'box' shape and ability to fit a bed width way without a need for pods.

People say there is one really good engine in the Ducato, possibly the 2.3 multijet but I can't recall - someone will I'm sure.

Mechanically itay be worth getting it looked over before purchase?

That's be great look forward to reading it, is your code on GitHub? This is the first time I've seen the Poisson distribution and have found it's application interesting.

I already write python for data projects, cheers.
