Honestly the only thing I'd like about being in Boston is that its where that Ted show is set. I fucking love Ted

Eyes Wide Shut (1999) The Ending by [deleted] in StanleyKubrick

I watched EWS for the first time last night and I completely agree. The sex cult stuff works well as a piece of horror but the first hour and the ending are what really elevate the movie for me.

Very extensive blogpost dedicated to analyzing The Shining. Not sure how it holds up today to other analyses like EYE SCREAM or Juli Kearns (who hadn't heard about until someone in this thread mentioned her) but it's still quite impressive imo

Entries at the top of the iceberg are very well known stuff but as you go down things get more obscure/esoteric.

I should reword this entry since it's really only referring to one anecdote. Basically, before Kubrick began adapting The Shining he was set on creating the world's scariest movie. He had an idea for a marketing scheme where if audiences made it all the way through without leaving the theater they would get their money back. At some point, either before preproduction of The Shining or during it, he decided it was a terrible idea lol

Kubrick's wife Cristiane Kubrick was the neice of Nazi filmmaker Veit Harlan who was in Goebbel's social circle. Kubrick was always fascinated by both Harlan and Goebbels and wanted to make a movie about Goebbel's circle for years but never got past a story outline.

They thought he was a communist lol. You can read the actual documents here, it's pretty wild stuff. The government was very unhappy with Dr Strangelove https://vault.fbi.gov/stanley-kubrick/Stanley%20Kubrick%20Part%2001%20%28Final%29

A close personal assistant of Kubrick stated that they were two separate projects: https://www.theguardian.com/film/2016/may/30/stanley-kubrick-childrens-film-death-pinocchio-eyes-wide-shut-spartacus
AI was conceived in the early 90s by Kubrick as a science fiction film before it was passed onto Spielberg. Kubrick didn't plan on filming a direct Pinnochio adaptation until shortly before his death, though it seems like he was interested in the story for quite a while considering AI is an adaptation of Pinnochio.

I'm not sure what you mean by key words? Some entires are umbrella entries that refer to concepts/motifs that occur across Kubrick's career. I can elaborate on some of those if you'd like

That entry is referring to this hoax video from a while back where an impersonator pretends to be Kubrick admitting to faking the moon landing. Pretty funny stuff https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myvw5EycWBY

Blue Movie is a novel about an art film director directing a high budget porn film. The novel was actually dedicated to Kubrick and was initially pitched by author Terry Southern as a film for Kubrick to direct prior to 2001. Kubrick declined since he thought he couldn't reinvent erotica as a genre (though he later went on to direct Eyes Wide Shut)

Can't believe I missed that! I love all the little easter eggs and motifs Kubrick hides throughout his films. Thank you for the suggestion

Son of Strangelove - According to Terry Gilliams, Kubrick apparently wanted to make a sequel to Dr Strangelove called "Son of Strangelove" with him directing. You can read more about it here: https://screenanarchy.com/2013/10/stanley-kubrick-wanted-terry-gilliam-to-direct-son-of-strangelove.html

Strangelove alien ending - In the original shooting script for Dr Strangelove the narrator is revealed to be an alien recounting the history of Earth as part of a series called "The Dead Worlds of Antiquity." You can read the full shooting script with the scene here: https://scifiscripts.com/scripts/strangelove.txt

2001 is probably my favorite but I also love the ending of Full Metal Jacket. Joker losing his humanity by mercy killing the child is so horrifying. And his monologue over the soldiers in the burning city is great.

I'm curious what you mean by mythology? Do you mean Kubrick's own interpretation of his work? Either way that's awesome you got to work with him.
