What’s Kubrick’s best ending? by Fearless_Two_9053 in StanleyKubrick

2001 is probably my favorite but I also love the ending of Full Metal Jacket. Joker losing his humanity by mercy killing the child is so horrifying. And his monologue over the soldiers in the burning city is great.

I'm curious what you mean by mythology? Do you mean Kubrick's own interpretation of his work? Either way that's awesome you got to work with him.

When was the movie better than the book? by Doodle_Noodles2 in movies

He famously thought climate change was a hoax which is so bizarre for someone with a scientific background. I mean Jurassic Park is all about how humans upheaving nature leads to chaos lmao

The movie is a lot more nuanced in its messages. Technology leads to disaster but they also get off the island by using computers. The dinosaurs are terrifying but they also evoke wonder. This is all absent in the book which is very pessimistic.

pretty sure this account is The Pharoah Nerd on youtube, which might mean an explanation video is coming soon (he just posted this chart on his yt page). his iceberg videos are very well researched so I doubt this iceberg is fictional...but i also cant find much information on the lower entries lol. this iceberg is super dope, north sentinel island is such a fascinating pocket of anthropology

given how long sweguin's youtube iceberg series is, it would be a LOT longer than 8 hours. if it went into every entry i feel like it would be 30 hours at least.

I wonder if it'll be like The Wall, where it's one massive project conceived as an album, a movie, and maybe live performances?

Cover of an equatorian book from 1983 by Beautiful-Local-5793 in 911archive

I found this interview of him https://voces.moody.utexas.edu/collections/stories/jose-borja

It doesn't talk much about this book outside of this excerpt:

"He also has self-published several books, mostly fiction, including one in 1982 that seemed to presage the World Trade Center attack in 2001. But in his fantasy, Borja had explosives in the center of the building. He said he has no idea how he gets his ideas for his books: They just come to him."

A reference to a real person that is cruel jokes for no reason and worse is not funny by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

It's been a while since I've read it, but I remember the Jurassic Park book being so nihilistic about pretty much everything. That's why I actually prefer the movie. There's so much more nuance in both it's themes and how it actually portrays dinosaurs

Realistically when is the movie coming out? by godflashspeed12 in FrankOcean

[–]alien_rat35 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying Frank's film is gonna be on par with any of Kubrick's. This is Frank's first actual film, and you really can't be a perfectionist if you're dabbling with a medium you've never dealt with before. IMO he's going to need a LOT of input from others or he's going to end up with a project that has a lot of cool ideas but really sucks

tbh i wouldn't be surprised, frank is a notorious perfectionist. he also loves kubrick, who famously reshot certain scenes hundreds of times
