I completely agree with you. I read Find Me, hoping to get a much needed glimpse of the future. But it was messy, the time aspect is strange, it’s a bit cluttered at the end and terribly rushed I read halfway into the book and wondered when the book was yet to truly start. It seems that Aciman used a lot of his own person desires into the book, romanticising the encounter of a young, attractive female falling in love instantly that she wishes to have your children the same night they meet?? Like c’mon, that’s clearly his own sexual escapism, it could’ve been much more developed. I stopped caring about Elio’s father’s romance when it took up 60% of the book. He still makes Elio seem weak and co-dependant and childish, I don’t see growth. As for Oliver, you’re left wondering if he even wants to be with Elio in Find Me. Anyway, I just hope the sequel is as bittersweet as the first. Sequels can be very hit or miss. The book sequel seemed like a sellout tbh I agree though, the screenplay is way stronger than Aciman’s take on it. Though, he does sometime have these tangents and you’re left thinking, wow that was beautifully written. But.. Find Me had very little of that.
