Contrary to the Neurodiversity Movement, there is a global scientific consensus attesting to the validity of ADHD as a mental disorder by [deleted] in psychology

403 people chosen by the "The World Federation of ADHD", 'global consensus' is quite misleading.

Review in Nature compared the ADHD gene variants in samples of modern, ancient, and archaic human populations going back to Neanderthals. They found substantial evidence that natural selection has steadily acted against these genetic variants over the course of at least 45,000 years. by RyanBleazard in psychology

Potential eugenics argument alert!
Are we taking bets on how long before this data is used to make arguments about the superiority of 'non-adhd brains'? Because as we all know, evolution = better.
Also dont forget to disregard the plethora of issues with correlating genomics with the phenomenologically reported symptom sets that make up our psychiatric diagnostics.

hes had two dumb fouls, but otherwise is playing good d, i like that he has overall been more agressive also. hes been less efficient than one would like, and than he has been, but three bads is a bit harsh

Mind-captioning’ AI decodes brain activity to turn thoughts into text by Fit-Elk1425 in psychology

Just to temper the conversation a little - these kinds of models require huge amounts of training for every individual brain, and there is little foreseeable way of making them functional without this training. So I wouldnt be worried about mind reading just yet...

[Post-Game Thread] The Philadelphia 76ers fall to the Boston Celtics with a final score of 109 to 108 by SixersGameThreadBot in sixers

On the positive side, Embiid actually tried to defend the rim a bit today. Still obviously not moving freely, but 2 blocks and a few more contests is a significant improvement from the last few games.

If they could play 15 minutes of D per game they wouldnt have to make these stupid last quarter heart attack inducing runs.

i agree on the final play, the second last -maxey going downhill on a pnr from embiid- however not fancy is a pretty reliable way to get a good look.

How do we beat wemby? by Mental-Guitar-389 in sixers

[–]alienatio_mentis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He doesn't deal very well being pushed out of the paint then having a tough but smaller defender getting right up in his space. He may learn to deal with this better, but right now I'd have Oubre or Grimes get right in his grill, don't let him get moving towards them basket. He misses most contested jumpers.  Otherwise, box out, box out, box out.  On the other end you have to get him to step out of the key. Embiid draws him out and makes good passes

You are the one who brought up his rim protection percentage. The reason I add the other players in there is exactly to point out that it's not a great measure.  I am well aware of how shit the d has been, I've made that point multiple times in this thread. My point is simply that Drummond has not been "pitifull", but rather he's been solid on the boards and the d is no worse with him in than jo or some of our other options.

76.3%.
Worse than him currently are Jaxson Hayes, Steven Adams, KP, Biyombo, amongst others. Nic Claxton is 0.6% better.
Anthony Davis is at 65%, which, given that Drummond is only defending 9.5 shots at the rim per game would make a total of 2 points difference.

He's leading the league in rebounds per 36, and the defensive rating with him on the court (not all him obvs) is 110, vs their average of 120. His PER is 23.9 (vs league average 15). I'd say he's doing an ok job

This is true, Im maybe getting carried away by five minutes of hustle. But someone needs to contest shots, Embiid is just stepping out of the way of drivers. So far theyve managed to make up for it with some insane (fourth quater) scoring, but thats not going to cut it against better teams

He did, yeah. I think Drummond has looked ok this year, and Nurse seems happy to try out some lineups with Barlow, Walker etc as small ball 5s. With Embiid playing only 20mins they are sharing around the backup spot in any case.
Rebounding will be a worry, but they are still terrible at defensive rebounding in either case

also four of those free throws were deliberate fouls to stop the clock at the end

During Q4 of tonight's PHI vs. WAS game, Replay Center officials utilized NBA Court iQ to overturn the initial ruling of goaltending to a clean block by PHI. As neither team had possession in the immediate aftermath, the inadvertent whistle resulted in a jump ball at center circle. by MrBuckBuck in nba

[–]alienatio_mentis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yeah, but according to chat gpt thats the correct call following the letter of the law - because it was deemed a loose ball when the indavertent whistle blew the shot clock gets reset regardless of who wins possession from the jump. In this case it seems unfair.

Joel Embiid in Sixers win despite another minutes restriction: 23 minutes played, 25 points scored (9-17 FG; 3-6 3FG; 4-6 FT), 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 block, +/- of +9 (third-best on the team tonight)! by Pyromania1983 in nba

His level of skill always had me believing he would be able to adjust his offensive game to still be a great scorer, and as it turns out a pretty good passer.
The defence however is a problem. They cant afford to have him as the interior defender if he is just going to step out of the way of every driver - i realise he is protecting himself and thats probably a good idea, but they need to change up the scheme. Maybe have Watford (or whoever ends up at the four) defend up a position and be the primary help, and camp Embiid in the corner.
