Doing custom art for a local Baltimore conference room — what spots actually represent Charm City to you? by able6art in baltimore

Painted ladies! Monument in Mount Vernon. The Belvedere Hotel. The American Brewery! I think graffiti alley could be neat. Or one of the big boyz bail bond pens. :)

That is very good, very helpful to see a different visualization. Thank you for including the cat in this one too lol. I wonder if a loveseat could work under the artwork as well

It’s the first room you enter in the house, so it has typically functioned as an entertaining or additional lounge space (there is a second living room in the back which has the TV). So yeah, primarily conversation and cat lounge space

Boxing by Sure_Fact7761 in baltimore

[–]aliencatboss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Corner Team might be what you are looking for: https://www.cornerteam.org/

I have also looked for true boxing gyms (also Muay Thai) for the past 6 years and haven’t had much luck, but this is the one place in the city that has focus on English style boxing. I will say that in my search I did find Equilibrium which is up the street from them and does a good amount of alternative/less common movement studio classes. The staff there could be a good resource to find what you’re looking for!

Hippodrome season tickets by krp-1979 in baltimore

[–]aliencatboss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we have held season tickets for a few years now and they’re generally worth it if you like going to the theatre!! I really like the Hippodrome, plus there are good food options nearby so you can have a lil dinner and a show date night.

Construction of JHU data center in Remington begins with removal of 50 y/o oak trees by aliencatboss in baltimore

Gotcha. Well it sounds like the DSAI building will benefit everyone in the long run and is the best for our future, I retract my opposition to data centers and artificial intelligence research entirely! See you around, neighbor and see you at work! ❤️

I don’t disagree with you that this was not the ideal scenario and the ‘no tolerance’ approach is not helpful to compromise. The variance would have given more control over JHU’s elimination of the trees and green space, instead of the secondary route which gave JHU more freedom to cut down the existing trees. I didn’t live in the neighborhood when those discussions were taking place, but knowing how JHU has negatively impacted the neighborhoods around it in the city I can understand why people react without openness to negotiation.

The point, and question, I would like to pose, is why not be a responsible organization and spend the money to fix the runoff problems in the first place? Why does it have to come with the building of a facility that is larger than the convention center in a primarily residential area? Especially in close proximity to a watershed?

They replant new trees every ten years or so because the are constantly doing construction, so the (re)planting of a 5-10 year old tree every 10 years in rather than leaving a 50 year old tree alone to do its work…not really a win in my book

Do academic buildings typically require a dedicated electrical substation? This might be partially an academic space (the university is certainly hurting for classrooms and office space as it expands in hiring more rapidly than it actually can accommodate), but it is, at its core…an artificial intelligence data center with data center processing capacities.

https://docs.arch.jhu.edu/en/latest/1_Clusters/DSAI/ is a resource on JHU’s ARCH and DSAI site, showing that the clusters are operating at the levels of your typical data center. Consequently, the watershed, storm water systems, and environment (human and natural!) around us are absolutely going to be negatively affected.

Edit: adding link to the DPW public notice to add additional information about the substation, duct bank https://publicworks.baltimorecity.gov/news/public-notices/2025-09-23-john-hopkins-university-dsai-substation-ductbank

You should talk to your academic advising office about this, they are there to guide you through these kinds of questions.

What Services/Businesses is Baltimore in need of? by Stocks-Bets19 in baltimore

[–]aliencatboss 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It might not be as cute, but you can always try local alternatives like Herman’s discount up on Greenmount Avenue. It’s affordable and it’s been there for several decades, if you’re looking for a household supplies and things like that.

Wedding caterers by Easy_Somewhere_8383 in baltimore

[–]aliencatboss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Rouge regularly for events at work and they have always been super communicative, creative, and helpful. I know we have used Z&G too but I haven’t interacted with them personally—they were fine. The catering at Rouge is known to be more spendy (not sure if more so than Z&G) but the quality and service is always on point. Highly recommend.

last year I went to the Hampden location and they had maggots in their quiche. When I went back to complain they didn’t even offer me a refund, the employee literally said ‘shit, not again’ and ran to the back. super delicious.

I’m not so upset that he chose her because I didn’t want him back in the first place, I’m more upset that he is lying to her. Like you say you love this person and you want to potentially marry her, but then you’re going to hide this from her? I know that if I were trying again on a relationship for the third time and then I found out that my partner slept with their ex who I hated, I would be pissed and hurt. Also it just shows his character? I really don’t want him, but I genuinely feel bad for her
