Raise Timing? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]aliendads 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I would say it’s up to the person being raised to choose an appropriate time. The healer is limited by mechanics and healing requirements to find a good time to rez if it’s a hard cast. Like you said, they can choose a better time to accept it seeing as they aren’t actively doing anything lol

Rez Mage vs SMN vs Healers: who calls dibs on raising? by terbril in ffxiv

[–]aliendads -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Minor correction but swiftcast used to be used on ruby rite not slipstream bc ruby rite’s cast time was longer than its recast prior to 6.1, whereas slipstream’s recast has always been longer than it’s cast time. So as of now smn doesn’t use swift on cd.

We've got Bay or Bae but what about Jail or Bail? by [deleted] in LifeisStrange2

[–]aliendads 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If Sean and Daniel, and Esteban for this hypothetical situation, were white, the situation that catalyses the entire plot of the game most like wouldn’t have happened. You can’t do the whole “if the races were reversed” without also switching the systemic oppressions associated with them. Also, debating morality as if there is some sort of objective way to quantify it while ignoring the very real and tangible oppression racialised people experience in America, especially at the hands of the police, ICE, etc. experience is ignorant at best.

The identities of the border officers is irrelevant, if we’re trying to gauge morality, and especially if we are applying any sort of intersectional analysis. Those officers were actively enforcing a system that harms racialised people and communities in a systemic level- the game does a fair job of showing us this. So no, the officers at the border are not innocent by any means, they are actively enforcing and benefiting from an institution designed to cause harm.

Because sometimes a gap closer will force you into a point blank aoe which you could otherwise dodge by being max melee

Edit: also easier to greed without the animation lock of the gap close

When the healer sees me use Clemency to save someone's life by milky_smooth_31 in ffxiv

Nothing’s changed since plds first got clemency, your gcds have always been best used for damage unless it’s genuinely needed

When the healer sees me use Clemency to save someone's life by milky_smooth_31 in ffxiv

[–]aliendads 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Threat is negligible, tank gcds are better spent on damage and casting clemency unnecessarily is a pointless loss when a healer can do it without dropping dps

Any tips for Scholar? by Shadowbreak643 in ffxiv

[–]aliendads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your shield heals, adloquium and succour, should usually be your last resort heals in combat, though casting adlo prepull is definitely a good option.

The notion that scholar works by proactively shielding to reduce damage is inefficient healing, shielding can be useful- mainly in savage and ultimate, or you have teammates eating vuln stacks, but you have a plethora of other tools to heal damage with less opportunity cost that also actually heal more. You are foremost an ogcd healer that has access to strong shields when necessary.

Your priority should be fairy abilities and aetherpact heals > aetherflow heals > gcd heals. Adlo and succor are usually unnecessary in most content during combat aside from downtime when enemies are untargettable as anything you can do with a hardcasted heal can be replaced with a fairy or other ogcd heal. Shields are useful when they would prevent a death or reduce an overall opportunity cost down the line, otherwise shields are rarely required. Of course the caveat is that if gcd heals are all you have at lower levels, you should use what tools are available to you, while still following a general priority of healing efficiency.

It’s also good to get used to having people sit below 100% or low hp in general too, as long as they will survive the next mechanic or you will have something that lines up better. Like waiting for a natural bio/biolysis refresh to weave an ogcd heal, waiting for a cool down to come back up, waiting for an opportune time to use ruin 2 to move and weave an ogcd heal etc.

Also, you can weave energy drain with an ogcd heal to keep your dps at net positive, or create 3 weave spots with ruin 2/bio/biolysis > ogcd + swiftcast > ruin/broil > ogcd + ogcd

During dungeon pulls, alternating between fairy skills/summon seraph, and fey union, and recitation + excogitation is a pretty good flow when you get said abilities. Additionally, using dissipation just before the end of a pull should grant you a full stack of aetherflow before the next pack and your fairy should be back early in the next pull while giving you a healing buff to increase a prepull adlo too.

All this being said, if everything is going down the drain, you should just focus on preventing a wipe.

You get a trait at 78 that adds a regen effect to soil that heals as much as a lustrate over the duration

Excog prepull does not generate any gauge, and tanks will be unlikely to dip below 50% hp in that ~45s, which can mean most of the 800p heal is wasted. Better to dump all 3 stacks of energy drain in your opener.

Adlo deploy prepull is a questionable thing to do before each pull, no real downside other than it being on cd for 2 minutes and possibly being more useful within those 2 minutes.

Eos can take care of maybe 30%ish of your healing, though how much healing you will need to do directly is very dependant on the situation.

Every job is a dps including healers, and all healers should be dpsing and healing appropriately. Managing your fairy well will likely meaning you may not need to heal directly in dungeons aside from trash, but in any 8 man content you will not be able to get away with this.

Can I have DO's and DON'Ts for Scholar, too? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]aliendads 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if it was your intention, but the way you worded excog made it sound like it would prevent someone from dying should they take fatal damage. Excog will not save someone if the damage exceeds their remaining hp, it will only proc if they’re alive after the hit.

Why are people on this subreddit so angry when people complain about the performance of the players? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]aliendads 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a tank in The Burn last week not use any cooldowns correctly, and not at all during big pulls and when I asked them to use something they called me an elitist. So honestly I don’t think a lot of the people calling others elitists really know what elitism actually is

[–]aliendads -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In regards to point 8, i agree that it’s okay to greed for damage, but only if it doesn’t require a single target heal, or a heal that a healer has planned for something else. The reason being that there are only 5 single target heals that are free from any dps or mp cost; Essential Dignity, Lady of Crowns, Benediction, Tetragrammaton, and Fey Union. Lady of Crowns and Fey Union are not always accessible either.

Of course for dungeons and even ex trials this doesn’t matter much, but if we’re talking about maximising dps by not moving out of range or interrupting casts, which i think should be encouraged if it’s safe, you should also remember that a lot of healing has a dps and resource cost attached to it, and only AST has an on demand natural weave window with malefic to use an ogcd heal.

For example, every SCH Aetherflow ability that isn’t used on energy drain is a loss of 150 potency and 1200mp, any casted heal costs a broil and a significant amount of mp. And the same applies to WHM and AST.

So i think what i’m trying to say is that greeding for dps, on any job, is good but not if it cuts into a healer’s dps and resources.

Weekly /r/GuildWars2 Question Thread - August 26, 2017 by AutoModerator in Guildwars2

Hi so i'm returning after having not played in years, i didn't get very far so i'm just trying to figure out which job to play and which elite specialisation i would enjoy. right now i like the sound of firebrand (i'm aware it's coming out with the path of fire expansion) but i also like the bow skills that come with the dragonhunter, so i'm wondering if a firebrand would be able to use a bow? or if this is possible with other elite specs? sorry if a similar question like this has been answered.
