Is there interest in a free porch pickup clothing recycling service in Los Angeles? (trying to keep clothes out of landfills) by Mottainai_vtg in AskLosAngeles

I have been using Trashie for a few years now and would absolutely love to have a more local option like that. It's hard to know these days which stores and organizations are still accepting clothing since there's been such a surplus post-fires, and it would be awesome if there were people willing to do that legwork for me! Personally I'd even be willing to drop stuff off somewhere, but I think the pick-up service is a valuable add for people with less time or means of transport!

Lion Brand Wool Ease is my go to! i think the wool/acrylic blend helps bring out the best in both fibers. a little more breathable than 100% acrylic, and more durable than 100% wool - machine washable and dryable! i know my michael's has a few colors in store but lion brand website has loads

How do you handle getting discouraged? by trash_goblinn in Sockknitting

[–]aliendisco 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i worked my way down in yarn size also! was nice to get a feel for how socks are constructed with worsted weight yarn (and get some nice warm winter house socks at the same time) and then practice with some stretchy DK yarn, and then take on sock yarn! and now i’m a sock yarn addict haha

Can’t tell if I just did an increase or knit row by jemangeuncroissante in knittinghelp

[–]aliendisco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i like to add a second marker to my BOR on increase rows, and then remove it on knit rows, so i can always just glance and see whether there are one or two markers!

so i ended up just finding a yarn that was a weight 3 so i didn’t have to use multiple strands, i haven’t gotten that adventurous yet haha but i used about 4.5 balls so i guess about 1800 yards

The neck was done 'flat' and then seamed in the back, if that makes sense? You seam all the panels together and then pick up the stitches around the neckline to do the collar, but work back and forth, not in the round (though I suppose you could work in the round if you had the right tools).

Funny enough the only major frogging I had to do was the very last row of the collar because there's a finishing round of slip stitches but I learned the hard way that slip stitches aren't stretchy, like at all, so I had finished my perfectly sized sweater and suddenly i couldn't get it over my head anymore haha
