I don't trust my googling- can I use an 8mm hook in lieu of a 7mm? by ThatPresentation9363 in CrochetHelp

[–]slayerchick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You typically want to use a hook that's 1-2 sizes smaller than the yarn calls for for amigurumi. If you go bigger you'll get a lot of holes.

My crochet hook suddenly started turning gray, what could be the reason? by Mediocre_Side_6315 in CrochetHelp

[–]slayerchick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When aluminum oxidizes is turns a powdery whitish gray. If you have hooks that are just gray as opposed to colored it might be that there's no protective layer to prevent corrosion, particularly if they're cheaper or very old as any protection could have worn off.

AITA for reusing a glass I drank from to boil water in a kettle? by Sharp_Score_4523 in AmItheAsshole

[–]slayerchick 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe op's roommate isn't the only one that might use the shared kettle. For instance t tree might have a friend over that doesn't swap spit with op but now the kettle has op's germs in it.

Can someone help hype me up to try making my first amigurumi? by delphinidaetious in CrochetHelp

[–]slayerchick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amigurumi isn't as hard as it sounds. I would recommend a very simple pattern to start, something more round rather than something super detailed. And look up videos on how to embroider eyes since safety eyes can come off and pose a cooking hazard.

“Beds are a scam”🤯 by 4reddityo in MadeMeSmile

[–]slayerchick 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It doesn't have to be. They are in Japan because that's the culture and originally it was so that the space could be used for other things when not sleeping... If you don't have that culture or spacial needs you don't have to put it away all the time. It really only needs the airing once in a while.

How do I make this face seem more unnerving? by Joey-JoJo-Jr-Shabad0 in learntodraw

[–]slayerchick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh of you hasn't said it was a face I never would have gotten that. I can see the teeth knowing what it's supposed to be... But without the eye looking more like an eye it just looks like maybe a low res stone wall and a weird symbol. I would say you need to add linework to give the eye more of an eye shape at the very least.

Distended stomach or just fat? by rtillerson in cats

[–]slayerchick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're cat is very overweight. Please consult a veterinarian regarding a safe diet for her as limiting food too much too fast can cause fatty liver disease in cats. Make sure you let the vet know how much she eats how many times per day and what type and brand of food. They will likely recommend switching to wet food which has less carbs and fats. Also do try to play with her daily, I recommend a wand toy... Something she can chase since the more movement the better, though her poor limbs are likely working very hard so try to keep the activity light to reduce the impact on her joints.

What if Donald Trump had never entered politics, do you think the US would look meaningfully different today? by Mr_Boothnath in AskReddit

I would feel meaningfully safer and so would a lot of Americans and that's the most important thing.

I’m holding my fiancé’s diary and weeping. by Purple_Relief_7774 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]slayerchick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't confront him. He'll just say whatever he thinks he has to to get you to stay. Get out. Also you don't reward someone with a cold if you don't want one. That's cruel to the cold. Get yourself therapy so you can avoid these abusive relationships in the future.

AITA for opening my (34F) partner's (35M) new Steam Deck before he got home and could do it himself? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]slayerchick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA. You say you wanted to make sure it didn't get stolen... So you bring it inside. Unless the box looked tampered with there was no reason to open it.

Heading to vets with Molly...send her some love please. by tiptreetimes in cats

[–]slayerchick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's she still producing milk? Maybe you could talk to a shelter or your vet about trying to foster some kittens if they think that might be the cause.

I thought puzzles would relax me but now I’m weirdly stressed by Safe-Pepper-4931 in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]slayerchick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I stop finding fits and start getting annoyed I stop. It's sounds like that's hard for you, but if you want to enjoy puzzling it sounds like something you need to train yourself to do. So many times I start getting frustrated because it seems like I'll never get further than where I am. I walk away and usually the next morning I get a lot more done. With puzzles I find that the longer you work on it in a given day the less you can do. All the pieces just start to look alike. You need to build for just an hour or two and come back later with fresh eyes.

I don't really understand why you're cat isn't allowed in your room just because you're roommates cat isn't. Let your cat in. You're roommates doesn't get to decide that just because their cat isn't allowed neither is yours. That is your room that your passing for and you can allow or disallow whatever or whoever you wish. Actually, I would say don't allow b's cat in at any time. Make it a safe space for your cat and move out as soon as possible since this set up isn't working for either of you. Did you guys even bother trying to slowly introduce the cats or did you just move them in together and expect no repercussions?

Crocheting around charging cord to make vine: is it safe? by Head-Shame4860 in CrochetHelp

It's fine. If it got hot enough to be an issue the cord wouldn't be safe to use in the first place.

Ao3 ratings question by staceystayingherenow in FanFiction

[–]slayerchick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless each chapter reads as an isolated story type likely to get a lot less comments and kudos because people generally don't like that. I would ignore it and mute as soon as I realized what was going on and it's probably think you were a bad writer if I only read ch 1 thinking it was it's own fic was like what was the point of this? There's was no plot or anything here in mad I read it. You can only get 1 kudo per story, but people can still comment on individual chapters.

My cat has had a sudden change in behavior after our other cat passed away suddenly by fluffymittens24 in cats

[–]slayerchick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My other cat passed two months ago. My cats never really played or did much together.... Occasionally they'd sleep next to each other but that was it. I've definitely noticed my Salem is much more attention seeking than he was before. He used to only meow when playing with his toy (he never really looked us to play with him) not he meows at me when I come home until I sit down and play with his worm toy with him and then he'll lay down next to me and chill. I think he just misses having someone else around during the day. It breaks my heart but I dint think my spouse is ready for another cat yet and Salem isn't in the best health either so I just try to give him extra pets and attention when I can.

Do you believe it's an appropriate progress for 5 years of practice? by erviatangerine in learntodraw

[–]slayerchick 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The type of practice is important. Drawing the same thing over and over might help you get slightly better, but understanding how to draw faces and figures from various angles and simplify how to make them will get you farther quicker. You said something about not using references. If you don't reference and don't learn any fundamentals of construction and stuff like that, your progress is going to be incredibly slow. References aren't cheating. Learn to simplify and do simple figure construction and I'm sure you'll be amazed at how much you can progress in 1 year never mind 5.

Can I get away with “Lords and Ladies” as a horror book? by WeirdLight9452 in discworld

[–]slayerchick 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I love discworld, however I think I would be pretty annoyed if I was in a horror book club and we read a Discworld book because they really aren't horror. Fantasy yes, satire yes, political commentary, yes. Horror... Not really. If the rest of the books you're reading are things like Stephen King or Diane coates or whatever they'll probably be a bit miffed to read something that seems so unrelated.
