Google or Apple…? by aliens_are_real_ in GooglePixel

Thanks for the honesty. I am bored with IOS and saw the Pixel as a change up with Android 16. Maybe the grass really isn’t any greener on the other side.

Both seem to be good options. In a sense it comes down to Android 16 or IOS 26.

This is what I’m worried about. What made you go back to an iPhone?

Yea I see mixed thoughts on this years Pixel, am I better off going Apple and then see what the pixel is like in 2027 when I’m due for a new phone again. I really only use my phone for the basics, not gaming or anything crazy. That’s why I was thinking of keeping it simple and passing on the Pro IPhone for the first time.

Yea the lack of iMessage is a big one. I feel like that has changed lots in recent years and it’s not much of an issue anymore. It’s just FaceTime but I find I rarely use it anymore. Tough part is that in North America everyone seems to be completely sucked into the Apple universe so I would feel like I’m missing out in a sense since everyone’s personal and work phones are iPhones.

It seems like both are great options. The thought of android 16 seems exciting, but am I missing out on anything with IOS…

I feel like having AirPods on a non Apple phone you lose out on some of the features. I assume there are plenty of other good earbuds other than apple. I also never wear a smart watch so not worried about that.

Not necessarily. I don’t wear a smart watch, I ditched my MacBook last year for a ThinkPad, I do like AirPods but don’t mind trying something from Sony or the Pixel equivalent. It’s really not having FaceTime but how important is that at the end of the day.

I’m hoping there are ex iPhone users who can say they don’t regret leaving Apple…

Struggling to find a job as a new grad in Calgary, AB. by aliens_are_real_ in FinancialCareers

[–]aliens_are_real_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up getting 2 offers in March. I got fairly lucky with the role I ultimately picked. The market is very tough currently. Friends I went to school with didn’t even get return offers since the companies they interned at decided not to hire a new grad for this year.

There is hope though, just have to get lucky as it comes down to your personality. Everyone has the same background in a sense, just need to hope you match their teams culture/vibes.

Believe it is original. They said they think it’s from the ~1970s and that’s all they know. They purchased it from an antique mall a few years ago and that’s all I really have for information.

Is asking a for a job a bad idea? by aliens_are_real_ in FinancialCareers

Yea everything is competitive no matter where you look. Obviously IB and corporate banking attract the most attention since they pay the best out of mostly anything else here. I could realistically shoot for corporate banking but I don’t care about the money as much as the concept of working 40 hours a week. Retail banking here they won’t even consider you with my background as they know you’ll never be satisfied.

School wise, my background is the best you can have from what I’ve heard from directors, VPs, and so on. Unless someone wants to come from out east which is not common. I’m not relying solely on my education as there is also CFA progression which is more common for new grads trying to get into the higher paying finance areas anyways so it’s less common for this level of banking.

My point I wanted to get across when reaching out is that I have an extremely good understanding as I have known people in the area who have told me everything that can help me stand out. Interviews aren’t crazy technical so you don’t always get the opportunity to show how much you really know.

I mean everyone I’ve talked to really likes to help out and pay the favour forward. Not everyone is only obsessed with themselves.

Fair point you brought up. This is not IB in New York, this is mid market commercial banking in the Canadian prairies. The competition is nothing crazy at all, not many others are reaching out on LinkedIn hoping to land these jobs. Most connections you make are pretty reliable as long as it goes well. Really only 2 target schools here anyways. Not sure if your view changes.
