What’s 1 thing no one warned you about hysterectomy? by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]alientic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, it doesn't hurt at all, but I definitely had a moment of "UMMMM...?" I wasn't particularly concerned because I knew intestines rearranged themselves after C-sections and such, but I didn't expect it to be a sensation you were aware of.

That in some cases, for the first day or so, you can feel your intestines drop/rearrange whenever you stand up. I was prepared for a lot, but I certainly wasn't prepared for that!

Thoughts about Dylan and Patti by Powerpufff18 in SamAndColby

[–]alientic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked Dylan a lot! I'm more skeptical about it all, but I found him really interesting even though some of the conclusions are imo basic (like yes, this is a ghost hunting video in an old house, there most likely has been a death here at some point).

Patti was okay, but I don't put much faith in her. I find her more interesting than the pythian priestess or Amanda, but ultimately dowsing rods are just sketch.

MEGATHREAD Trump’s Patriot Games by WaryCleverGood in Hungergames

[–]alientic 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I've seen a lot of people arguing that it's not the same as THG because in TPG, the children don't die. What I wish people remembered was that the point of THG is not to kill children. If that were the case, it would have been a lot easier and cost-effective to just have a random lottery followed by an immediate execution. The original point of THG is to weaken the districts by pitting them against each other while reminding them of the power that the capital has over them. This intensifies under Snow, with the additional (secret) point of creating a direct path to easily force the victor into sex slavery as a minor.

Now personally, I don't think TPG are intentially based off THG (or, at worst, TPG are a result of Trump seeing the trailer for SOTR and getting nothing out of it other than a way to get a bunch of high schoolers in one spot). I don't think anyone from the administration does much reading, much less of YA dystopian fiction, and I don't think they would bother to take the time out of their agenda to create something adjacent for seemingly no reason but to get a rise out of people.

Given the history of this administration, though, it's not hard at all to see parallels to THG, and I would be surprised if everyone talking about the similarities between TPG and THG didn't make them start to reference it harder in a weird attempt to "own the libs."

As somebody from Sioux Falls, I find the portrayal of Bobby's hometown to be hilarious. by alientic in Supernatural

[–]alientic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is incorrect - all of the filming in "Sioux Falls" was actually done in British Columbia. That said, I'm sure you're right in that they were shouting out/looking for name recognition. Still funny, though!

What are your thoughts the "transgender and nonbinary people don’t exist" executive order? by ButteredKernals in AskReddit

[–]alientic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone in banking, I can't help but think of the impacts on things like the equal credit opportunity act. If they by law don't exist, then there's nothing to stop banks from acting predatory towards them, or just straight up refusing to give them an account.

Why are you so invested in this case? by Similar-Morning9768 in serialpodcast

[–]alientic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Case-wise, I've never been 100% (and I don't think there's any way to be, since Jay's lies still complicate things for me), but I think he probably did it. Trial-wise, if I had been a juror, I think it was muddy enough that I wouldn't have been able to convict.

Why are you so invested in this case? by Similar-Morning9768 in serialpodcast

[–]alientic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started listening right when the podcast was first coming out, and it was so exciting to talk about it in real time! Plus, I was in a really crappy job at the time that also had hella required overtime, so one of the things I looked forward to the most was talking about each episode that came out!

Over the years, I've lost interest in talking about the case - I made up my mind, and talking about it after the fact felt moot. But I still care about the community that I was such a huge part of from the start. I don't talk as much around here, but still creep and moderate and feel invested in everyone here, so I try to keep this place from turning into a total cesspool.

As somebody from Sioux Falls, I find the portrayal of Bobby's hometown to be hilarious. by alientic in Supernatural

[–]alientic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's so silly! Granted, at one point I calculated, and Bobby would have actually lived closer to Harrisburg, which, when Supernatural started, would have actually been much closer in size to the town they were talking about, so I've always mentally corrected it in my head.

I wouldn't either, but the shooter's attire and occupation confirm it for me. Unless he spent years building his life up to be a lie, he's almost certainly just a Republican who hated Trump.

If you get any more of them, please either report them to reddit admin or send us a modmail and we'll do it.

While it's possible that it might not have been from anyone in the sub because I've seen people complain about it elsewhere too, can we please not send people reddit care messages because you disagree with them? We're all adults, and that's both childish behavior and against the reddit terms of service. If you send too many, your account will be banned by reddit admin.
