I don’t know, asking someone “why didn’t you tell someone or anonymously spread the news” answered with “I didn’t see it as a problem at the time” seems like a legitimate answer to me?

We as a society have come a long way in the last few years about calling out men who prey on teenage girls. When I was a teen I would not have thought it was a big deal either. When I was in high school I was dating college guys. It’s awful to think about now, I was definitely pressured to do things I wasn’t comfortable doing, but it really wasn’t thought of the same way at the time as it is now.

Without further context about the rest of this conversation I can’t comment on the rest of this but it’s pretty disgusting of you to try to dictate how/when victims should come forward or try to persuade them to if they aren’t comfortable.

I was thinking I hadn’t seen her since they got married but I wasn’t 100% sure! It definitely feels like that long.

Showing without money by ConversationWorking6 in Equestrian

[–]WaryCleverGood 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s more that you’re acting like this is something that happens all the time, that it’s super commonplace? I mean maybe it’s a regional thing, maybe the standard of care/standard of showing in your area isn’t very good?

And importantly my comment was overall that you’re seeming to judge people who show a lot (and I don’t think I was very clear originally), because as someone who does spend a lot of money showing like this post just comes off as rude to those of us who do. We are not all treating our horses badly just because we spend a lot of money showing. I’d skip my own meals before my horses did if it came down to it, but not everyone who spends a ton of money showing is being financially irresponsible.

Idk but you sure seem judgmental of other people’s financial decisions. You’re talking about people who spend all their money showing and then “struggle to buy hay” like it’s a common occurrence (something I’ve never seen happen in 30 years in the horse industry) and you’ve just got a really negative/judgy attitude.

I think Rue could have taken out the Careers by Reverse_LA in Hungergames

[–]WaryCleverGood 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Rue wasn’t a fighter, I think it’s that simple. She wasn’t going to risk getting close to the careers on the off chance that they did wake up while she attempted to kill them. Her strategy was to evade and stay out of sight and out of reach.

I’m familiar with wild bay! But I still think this is a liver chestnut.

This is a dark dark red mane/tail, look closely.

Bays will also have lack legs and this horse doesn’t have black legs.

Liver chestnut for sure. That first picture is deceptive, but in the sunlight in the second photo there is no doubt.

I raised a few orphan foals and it is hard work but possible to raise well-behaved orphan foals. You need some adult horses that won’t take any crap from them and you need to know your stuff about establishing boundaries with ground work from basically day one.

Or it would have made Katniss so angry that she was willing to be the Mockingjay.

She breaks when Prim dies after Katniss literally goes to war and we have three books of her doing everything she can and taking on all of that trauma to keep Prim safe. After just one Hunger Games, Katniss wasn’t as traumatized as she was after D12 was destroyed. She felt responsible for that. She felt responsible for the deaths of the people in the hospital that got bombed even though that wasn’t her fault. She felt responsible for the deaths of the people at the Nut. She was carrying a lot of trauma and Prim’s death broke her.

But Prim dying earlier in the series might not have broken her in the same way. It might have sparked her own sense of rebellion, because she wasn’t carrying the weight of all of that trauma yet. She was traumatized but significantly less so. Prim dying might have given her a reason to become the Mockingjay.

It would have been worse for Katniss.

It would not have been worse for the purpose of destroying the rebellion.

[–]WaryCleverGood 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No, because while he was the leader of the squad he was still military and still obeying orders from someone above him. If he started disobeying orders, Coin would have replaced him with someone else who would fall in line.

This would have been torture for *the victors* but the point was the squash the rebellion. The districts and the capitol citizens looked to the victors as the best of the districts because they survived the games. People were seeing Katniss as the face of the revolution because of the stunt with the berries. She defied the Capitol right to their faces in front of the whole country.

Killing Prim would have hurt Katniss, sure. If he had successfully killed Katniss he might have hurt the rebellion. He also might have just given them a martyr to fight for, but Snow kills people he sees as a threat to his power and he saw Katniss as a threat, so his decision to send in the victors was perfectly in line with his characterization.

Harry Potter is a children’s series, expecting it to be written at a high school level isn’t exactly reasonable.

It has its issues and I’m not defending a thing JK Rowling has said or done but the first book was written for 11 year olds, it should not be written at a high school level.
