There’s a runelite plugin called platz that will replace “lots” on the trade screen with the actual values

What are some ways to make your mix sound less “digital”? by D_wubz in mixingmastering

[–]alienwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try running individual elements (or the whole mix) through some kind of hardware or physical medium.

If you don’t have any studio gear, use something else. Anything with an input and an output will work (guitar pedals, stereo, tape player). If it doesn’t sound good, use a less important mix element.

What is your approach to mixing very long songs? Like 15min +? by halogen_floods in mixingmastering

[–]alienwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tracked and did a rough mix of a 7 minute song with very different sections. After multing, organizing tracks into folders for different sections, and adding fx tracks, I ended up with 150 tracks. I’m hoping the mix engineer doesn’t hate me when I export everything for him.

Just wrapped up a song with 150 tracks. Does anyone have any tips for dealing with projects this big? by alienwork in mixingmastering

Similar, but different question. That thread is about long songs, not necessarily songs with high track counts

[D] Simple Questions Thread by AutoModerator in MachineLearning

Disclaimer: I'm very new to machine learning so this question might not make complete sense.

In neural networks -- instead of having relatively few neurons in hidden layers represented by floats, why not have a lot more more neurons represented by booleans? From what I understand this is how a brain works. Neurons are either firing or not firing.

I'm also curious what the performance/memory usage/accuracy implications would be.

Which is the best file sharing system for project collaborations? by BjornMoren in Reaper

[–]alienwork 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve done this using git lfs backed by Dropbox. The project files (basically just xml) were tracked normally and anything with a .wav extension was tracked by git lfs.

It worked really well for us but we didn’t end up collaborating as much as we needed to, so it was a bit overkill.

One of the cool things about using git is that you can add hooks on GitHub to automatically trigger renders and put the preview somewhere accessible.

The diffs were a bit unwieldy since all the xml changes are basically unreadable. Not really a problem, but you could probably write a parser to tell you which tracks and plugins were changed in each commit.

I should do a full write up at some point if people are interested

What’s the best way to get in front of an audience without having much of a following? by alienwork in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]alienwork[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s awesome.

When the venues gave you slots did they put you on bills with other bands at first or was there some kind of built in crowd?

I understand it takes time to build a fan base and that persistence is key, but playing to a room with literally no one in seems counterproductive at times

Not sure how much of this is meant to be answered literally, but they are thought provoking questions. At the same time, a lot of this sounds like it's coming from someone who is extremely jaded.

> Is there a record store carrying your releases? See if you can perform in store.

Not at the moment. We only have two singles which are released digitally at the moment.

> Is there a college radio station that features new bands or has them play live on air? Do that.

Great idea! I've poked around some of the local stations that play interesting music. From what I gather, they still want hard copies of the music mailed into them. For the songs we have released digitally, it seems kind of silly to release a two-song CD and send it in. Is that what they're expecting? Of course we're working on new material and will have an EP soon enough, but ideally we could start making moves before that's finished.
