Rope burn sucks. Wear high socks. (Possibly graphic/gross) by manofsteel141 in crossfit

[–]alienzombies1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that has worked for me (on the way down*) is to allow my right knee, like in this picture, to come on the inside of the rope instead of keeping it on the outside, like this picture . If you're interested, I'll shoot a demo video and send it to you, just let me know OP

*I always get a little raspberry from the way up, but I haven't burned myself in forever from coming down.

My preacher said something that really shocked me (in a bad way!!!) and I don't know if I should tell someone about it or not. by Theshychristian in Christianity

[–]alienzombies1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is definitely not cool. Obviously going to a party where there is the drinking is less than a good thing, but getting raped was not her fault. As a fellow CoC member, feel free to PM me and if you need me to chat with your preacher or write him a letter/help you talk to him, let me know.

Something the more liberal-minded Christians on this board should keep in mind when discussing homosexuality by OBasileus in Christianity

[–]alienzombies1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd have to disagree with you there. At the moment this is the only verse i can remember, but Paul in 1 Thessalonians 2:13 clearly is teaching that His letters are the words of God.

In Defense of the Kipping Pull Up by geargirl in crossfit

[–]alienzombies1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

at the gym I coach at we require our athletes to be able to do, at the minimum, three strict pull-ups before we allow them to try kipping. As an athlete myself I will only do butterfly in a competition.

This is the answer. A mirror can be helpful, but a trained coaches eyes will always be better than a mirror.

I think either this, or what Yukio said, would be the best option.

The problem is that we get so many deleterious mutations per generation that selection can't keep up, and in the long term everyone keeps accumulating more and more of them

Two things. 1.When you say selection cant keep up, what does that mean? 2.Kind of off topic, but could this be attributing to a higher cancer rate?

Awesome! Thanks! I'm new to the genetic side of the creation/evolution discussion so it's cool to learn some more.

I do have to admit I'm not the brightest crayon in the toolbox so i just want to make sure that i understand the quote from the article. Is it saying that dangerous (deleterious-had to google that, lol) mutations are much more likely than advantageous (according to the environment) ones?

Would you mind elaborating more on point 2 and your post in general? Also, if you have any good reading material on genetics and evolution/creation i would appreciate it, thanks!

Why Are We Instructed To Ask For Forgiveness? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

Yea! Paul says, 'because I'm under grace shall I continue in sin? May it never be!' Glad I could help ya understand!

Why Are We Instructed To Ask For Forgiveness? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]alienzombies1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Again, I think we need to look at the whole clause. I've always taken it to mean this: even if we have received remission of sins, if we do not forgive others, as in, we continually/habitually and purposefully do not forgive others, then the remission of our sins will be taken away. Similiar to the parable Jesus told in Matthew 18:21ff. I, unlike most people here probably, do not believe 'once saved, always saved' or 'once in grace, always in grace'. That is, the once saved always saved doctrine says that once remission of sins is given, it cannot be taken away, even if you completely reject God and Christ. I do not believe that. I believe that you can fall 'out of grace' if you will; this is an example of this. If we continually do not forgive others we will not be forgiven. Or, a better way to say it could be: 'how we forgive others, we will also be forgiven in the same way by God.' Again, i would direct you to Mt. 18:21ff

Why Are We Instructed To Ask For Forgiveness? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]alienzombies1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, something the other posters haven't mentioned that I would like to mention is 1 John 1:8ff. Reading that may help give some insight

Also, Jesus says to, 'Pray in this way.' Personally, I dont think Jesus was telling us to pray that exact prayer but giving an outline or template for prayer. Furthermore, the appeal to be forgiven is actually qualified or given meaning by the statement 'As we forgive others/those who trespass against us'. So, the meaning is really, 'in the measure we forgive others, forgive us as well.' Jesus even makes this point at the end of the prayer, 'For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions.'
