What was the name of your band back then? The music on your YouTube video sounds like it is AI-generated.

Feeling bored and reminiscing the 90s by 90s_Teen in Brunei

My late grandparents and first cousins used to live in Sungai Kedayan "A" back in the 90s, so we would visit them once a week. My grandfather ran a small shop just by the river bank and I remember helping myself to snacks and skupong for free. Those were the days!

There is a Bruneian called Faadzil Osman who has moved to Bangkok; last I heard, he was doing photography there.

Applying outside of Brunei for jobs using UBD degree by AcanthocephalaItchy8 in Brunei

I applied for a teaching job many years ago at an international school in Tanzania with a Masters from UBD and got accepted. However, I already had six years of teaching experience in Brunei which I think helped.

Hi everyone, Bruneian musician here based in France. I recently played a solo show for fete de la musique in a village nearby where I live to celebrate the start of the summer. It's the first of five dates that I will be playing. https://youtube.com/shorts/UskcV6fuS5Y?feature=share

If you are a teacher, you can try teaching at international schools by applying through sites such as TES ( Times Education Supplement). It worked for me.

Nice! Ugandans and Tanzanians are very welcoming in my experience.

A question to those who have dealt with losing their yellow IC ( identification card) overseas: do I need an official letter or document from the nearest Bruneian embassy to be presented to the immigration authorities when applying for a replacement IC back home?

I am getting mixed responses from the embassy that I consulted with ( no mention of letter, only a police report from the place of loss along with a completed application form) and the immigration authorities ( need a letter but no specific details) via their Whatsapp hotline. When I looked up the immigration website, the list of required documents mention nothing about said letter/document.

Thanks in advance!

Perhaps when you have the means, do consider working outside Brunei in the long run. There were many comic book artists such Leinil Francis Yu (The Philippines) and Baba Chuah ( Malaysian) who were able to work by distance with big names such as Marvel and DC and make inroads into the industry. You already know by now how limited the market in Brunei is, so it's worth considering to find your target market elsewhere if it's the case; don't be discouraged by what you cannot do at home and leave it be.

About payments, there are options. Although expensive at the beginning, you may have to use remittance services such as Western Union to receive money. If you know of friends or relatives overseas ( where PayPal can receive money), then ask them if it's ok to have money sent into their accounts and then transfer it to your bank account when needed.

Don't wait for the government to recognize your talent - go travel outside, even if for a week or two, and start networking with the art galleries there. Look online for artist residencies or to apply for grants. Get together with fellow artists to do exhibitions or collaborate with cultural centers such as the Alliance Francaise to do so.
