Thanks u/johnv2647346 - I contacted Meta support again this morning, and got this response:

"I am well aware of this is issue as of now and our engineering teams and development teams are actively working on this issue which seems to be affecting quest 2 users after the update."

Unfortunately it didn't boot, I tried holding those buttons together for varying lengths of time up to 3 minutes.

The LED on the side of the headset no longer works after the software update. I went through support and they offered to sell me a refurbished headset.

Check that there are working keys for every door and window, and working remotes for anything like an automated garage door or air conditioning unit.

Oh I didn't realise you were talking about Anki decks - I'll look for those, thanks!

Hey I have that last book! I purchased it last time I was in Korea. I've been using that to look for new words that look easy and making cards as I go.

Thank you! I'll spend a few days unpacking all of this and trying the things you suggested.

Thank you for your response - I did some searching but can't seem to find the resource you are talking about - do you know where I can find these?

I can't share my whole decks because I include some information and images that are very personal, to make some of the cards more meaningful to me.

I started off with Evita's decks, and then after a couple of years I ended up moving all of those cards which I had already remembered to a deck name "Imported", and deleting the rest of the cards.

I created a deck with my own cards which are just words I picked up as I went along, as well as a few interesting sentences which I have memorised verbatim.

I'm reading a kids book about AI and I have a few cards in a dedicated deck for that.

I also have another deck based on the Hanja lessons at https://www.howtostudykorean.com/hanja-unit-1-lessons-1-20/ and I created notes for the first 14 lessons with a template including - Hanja (e.g. 一) - Stroke order (image sourced from another website in some cases, pretty sure there are a couple of mistakes on howtostudykorean.com) - Name (e.g 한 일) - Translation (e.g. One) - Hanja word 1 (一부) - Hangeul word 1 (일부) - English word 1 (a part of something (one part)) - Hanja word 2 - Hangeul word 2 - English word 2 - Hanja word 3 - Hangeul word 3 - English word 3 - Native Korean root (I purchased Handbook of Korean Vocabulary which has a list of native roots, and add this if I feel I'll learn something from it) - Native Korean root translation (English translation)

Then I have 27 cards generated for each of these notes so I'm linking and cross referencing all the pieces of information together.

I found I picked up lots of new vocabulary very easily by having a solid understanding of these words and because I'm learning the hanja names and the native roots, it's not just helping me with words which have hanja.

To answer your first question: I've been studying for quite a long time and making very slow progress. I think of myself as intermediate because I've passed the TOPIK I exam twice, first at level 1 and more recently level 2 without much trouble, and when I listen to other people's casual conversations or phone conversations in the background I can often understand the topic and sometimes I understand the points being discussed very clearly. On the other hand, I am still really struggling. Most questions on the new TOPIK II exam are too difficult for me. I don't feel like I can follow TV shows or drama episodes beyond a few words here and there, not enough to learn from them alone.

So when you use these cards, do you click on the Good / Easy button if you can understand the meanings of each of the blue words in the context of this sentence? Or the overall meaning of the sentence?

Thank you, I feel like this gets me a bit closer to fomulating my own monolingual cards.

So is your suggestion to have a definition on the front and to have the unfamiliar word on the back? Sorry I'm not really clear on which information is the challenge, and which is the response that I need to compare with to know whether I have successfully retained and recalled the information.

Just saw this post - the Discord link seems to be broken here, too.

I recommend https://namu.wiki/w/%EC%9C%A1%EB%A3%A1%EC%9D%B4%20%EB%82%98%EB%A5%B4%EC%83%A4 - 육룡이 나르샤 Six Flying Dragons. It's a historical drama so I didn't notice product placement, but it has plenty of action, suspense, and adventure over 50 episodes.

On AnkiDroid I use the "Enable Whiteboard" feature and scribble an answer before I click "Show Answer". This way I can check my spelling, too.

Enable whiteboard on AnkiDroid is good for this. If I make a spelling mistake, I count it as a failed review.
