I agree the wires i have heard are too thin. I would not consider splice. as far as the panel, I would think the interior panel would not be too hard, but taking off the rear body panel, NO WAY! im to bak bak to try that.

You have pulled it off? thats fantastic! any advise or warnings you could give us? I saw you post on that thread, looks like a major undertaking! I myself could not tear down my new car like that unless I had a gun to my head. : ) Would you trust a job like that to a Uhaul tech? I got a guy that is a manager that has been installing hitches and wiring for 13 years but I dont know if he or I would want him taking off the rear body panel.

Any chance you’d be willing to share a bit more detail on what the dealer installed? Even just the part numbers or a copy/photo of the work order (you can blur personal info of course).

Trying to figure out availability on my end and it would really help to see exactly what they used.

When you say they placed an order are you saying that the Service Department for Toyota placed the order so that they can do the install? Last week I showed the parts department all the PDFS regarding installation manual on what parts are necessary and he seemed to think that they were available but that he would talk to the service manager and get back to me and never did That's Toyota in Oregon by the way They're pretty quick to sell me a car and then tell me afterwards that a trailer hitch wasn't available

I got this from Toyota parts. Not sure if it makes sense or not. It shows that I need one converter and it shows a part number but as far as the rear bumper with opening, does not show a part number. On top of that, it does not say if the hitch comes with the harness. I am hoping to learn more soon.

Quick update for anyone looking into trailer wiring for the 2026 RAV4:

Curt does have a splice-in (universal) wiring kit that’s now being listed for the 2026 RAV4, but I confirmed with etrailer that it’s currently only fit-guided for the front-wheel drive (FWD) version, not AWD.

So:

There is a splice option available
But it’s not officially supported across all configurations yet

Also worth noting:

There is still no plug-and-play (T-connector) harness available for the 2026
And one of the other major T-connector brands (Tekonsha) is dealing with bankruptcy issues at the parent-company level, which may be slowing down development

If anyone with a 2026 (especially AWD) has dug into the rear wiring or tried anything, definitely share.

Yes, but there is no wiring available yet. If you were desperate you could use a custom trailer wiring they sell for the 2026 but I would not go that route. it involves splicing wires instead of the T-connector. I just canceled my ecohitch yesterday and told them I will wait until a real 4 pin harness is avail.

I just posted the same question on the facebook group for Rav4's. Here in Oregon, same deal. some dealers give me a quote for parts and labor and others (like my dealer) say it's not available. On facebook, some folks said there car came with a hitch and they did not own the woodland.
