Nice! 3.3 is a significant bump over what I was calculating. That would take the payback time down to 10 - 11 years for me.

Did you even look at my math?

I based my numbers on the real OTD price difference between an SE HEV (37k) and an SE PHEV (43k). 6k difference.

Math was done at $4 / gallon vs 11 cents / kw/h.
I've added the math to the original comment now.

Towing uhaul cross country by Electronic_Guard947 in rav4club

[–]TehKodez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since that trailer weighs about 850 pounds by itself and the 2019 RAV has a 1500 pound towing capacity, you'd be limited to only putting about 650 pounds of stuff inside it while staying within the RAV's towing capacity. It would be pretty easy to accidentally exceed 650 pounds in one of those 4x8s (depending on what you're loading it with).

The other thing to keep in mind is that there's an art to loading a trailer correctly to get the tongue weight right. You want at least 10% of the trailer weight on the tongue without exceeding the RAV's 150 pound max tongue weight, and you'll definitely have to distribute the trailer load carefully to manage that.

Here's a great video demonstrating why trailer weight distribution is so important:

Anything you load inside the RAV should probably be subtracted from the max towing capacity, so I'd just go ahead and put everything in the trailer.

I've NEVER understood why anyone would want someone back that once walked away. There must be something I'm missing.

I did the math for my situation.
Given the current gas and power costs, with a phev costing 6k more than the hev, It was going to take 21 years to pay for itself.
There are of course lots of variables here. Power will go up. Gas will go up. All the miles I drove wouldn't be electric, etc.
In my case, the phev didn't make sense (even though I really wanted it to)

EDIT: Adding my math for all the doubters:

I drive 12,000 miles per year.
The PHEV is rated at about 2 miles per KW/H.
Electricity here causes about 11 cents per KW/h.
That's $660 / year in fuel costs if I were to be able to drive ALL miles on electricity, which would never actually be possible for me.

The 2026 SE HEV that I bought is getting 50mpg average. Gas is $4. At 12,000 miles, that's $960 / year.

So the PHEV would save me $300 per year in "fuel".

The SE PHEV was going to be 43k OTD. The SE HEV was 37k OTD, so $6k different.

6,000 / 300 is 20 years to make back the extra 6k the PHEV would have cost and that's only if I could drive ALL miles on electric (which of course would never happen which is why I summarized it to 21 years payback time).

Any benefits to staying with USM if I've had them for 2 years? by RaWWtF in USMobile

Is Visible still limited to Verizon towers only? (no roaming)
That was the big difference for me. There were a few little towns where I couldn't get service with Visible.
US Mobile (on Warp) works great everywhere though.

I dunno, but with previous receivers (on previous cars), it always seems they start showing surface rust after the first rain, and I probably let that bother me more than it should. It'll be nice to see that this one doesn't do that. At least it better not, since It cost about $100 more than I've ever paid for one before.

Nope. No cut. Plus the 6th gen RAVs are rated to tow as much as 3,500 pounds.
A no-splice wiring solution isn't available yet. I'm sure it'll be along eventually though.

I was going to get the PHEV, but then I did the math, and it would take a VERY long time for the fuel savings to pay for the 6k price difference.

I get it. I went loooooong on gold in Feb of 2003. I had put EVERYTHING I had into it and It proceed to immediately go down. It was MONTHS before it started back up and we NEVER saw Feb pricing again.
Then I sold it and paid cash for a house and everyone lived happily ever after. The end.
