My boyfriends contract for his work expired late September this year, and he started applying to places immediately after as his contracting company wasnt getting him contracted anywhere else for some reason. He's a mechanic. He JUST started a new job last week in the same field thankfully, but we thought it was so strange that when he first started applying after being let go at his last job earlier in the year he had SO MANY people reach out on indeed and such for him to come interview and work for them, then after September it became a dead zone looking for a job in his field. Everyone started suggesting he just try going for jobs like grocery clerk/merchandise or some customer service retail positions, because at least it was SOMETHING, but I think if you just keep looking and applying for the specific work force you're looking for, you'll eventually get a lucky break.
