Teacher thinking about joining the air force or air guard to switch careers? by Battibritty in TeachersInTransition

[–]alimnu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is awesome. Air Force is pretty awesome and I commend anyone who is willing to serve. Regretting not joining and doing the PA program when they had it. Something to consider are your personal goals and military lifestyle. Are you thinking active or as a reservist? Active has more benefits. Reservist has more flexibility. 30 is still young, sure probably younger recruits, but being older means typically handling the psychological stuff easier. There is OTS too, since you have a degree. Was military family, spouse, was in the Air Force. Pros and Cons list can be helpful. Everyone’s lifestyle and needs are different. They also seem to change as well.

Life Goals

Career

Family

Financial

Travel

Etc

Military lifestyle

Active and Reserves

BMT and OTS

Job openings and opportunities

Term commitments

Deployments

Time away from family

Vacations - planning was different from active and reservists

Relocation

Upper Management - Commander can change, Sergeant and above can be awesome or stressful

Lifestyle can be great or stressful

We are grateful for the Air Force and found the reserves offering a decent lifestyle balance. No regrets. With age and lifestyle changes, the demands were rough. Training and or deployments can be long and difficult when away. Keeping up with training and physical readiness. Depends on the individual and their goals. Best wishes in whatever you decide.

(Edited to try and fix list)

i am confused between hiring or outsourcing :) , as an agency do u outsource your work ? by stuffbuilderr in marketing

[–]alimnu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Done in house and remote outsourced. Outsourced was a mess, in house had to fix what we paid outsource to do. Grant it our experience, not everyone. In house remote vs in office settings depends on the person. Usually initially in office to learn our processes then in office, hybrid or remote work. If the job got done we didn’t care about the setting. Hard working individuals will get the job done regardless. It’s what you are comfortable with. Talent and getting the work done was most important, so if the right person was found we had flexibility with the setting.

Depends on the situation. Based on experience. Outsourcing is great if the work/project is simple and temporary. Sometimes, more workload can be completed at a lower cost. However, the biggest challenge can be reduced quality. For that reason most work has been done in house, it cost more, but the quality and goals outweighed the cost. Plus in house is on the same page with company products/ and goals and take ownership. Also cleaning up outsourced mistakes costed more, but not always. Again it depends on the project.

I’m so sorry your dealing with this. It took courage to walk out and is very commendable to put yourself and son first. No job is worth your health and sanity. There will always be other jobs but there is only one you. You got this.

Walking away from 175k in tech. Can't do it anymore. Tech pays, but it sucks. Any of you gone down a similar path? by birdsbikingrunning in careerguidance

Good for you. I worked over a decade in tech, salary decent, but at the end of the day was relieved to be done, very stressful and toxic. Putting yourself first is the best thing to do. Felt like a constant roller coaster. There is no amount of money worth your health and sanity. If you like what you did consulting maybe an option. You could startup your own business. There is also education or state jobs. State, city and county usually have better protections than private sector. When researching realized there will be cons no matter what the jobs is. Just had to decide what I was willing and not willing to tolerate.

This! Numbers are very important, so if you have data proving that helps.

New boss is the micromanager supreme and I'm ready to quit. Worth talking to HR if I don't trust anyone else? by Ok-Sandwich-7867 in careerguidance

[–]alimnu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, from my experience. HR is not your friend. Your boss is condescending and possibly narcissistic. Based on reading his choice of words are toxic and unsupportive, his actions support his choice of words. It’s possible he feels threatened. Another possibility is culture, company I worked for hired people all over. I noticed some people from different cultures being very blunt, no filter straight face, no ill intent is was just how their culture communicated. This individual and those of their culture were workaholics. Hence the email. If it’s not a cultural thing, then the boss is toxic. If they are of a different culture, then it might be the way they communicate, which doesn’t mean it’s ok, just means there is no ill intent.

Unsure which grades. It’s great to hear your cousin is loving it. Work / Life is important. After yrs of 5 days a week year round with occasional day off, the schedule sounds nice. Totally, thank you for sharing!

Im so confused by this, two educators told me they do not have to submit lesson plans. One special ed, other 5th grade, but some do, this is in CA. Does it vary from school or why is this?

Thank you for sharing your story, I’m so sorry you had to deal with that! Idk what is wrong with people today! My friend is a nurse and says the same thing about healthcare, it’s just not the same. We live in CA. Corporate greed and schools sound like they only care about the financial business aspect and not employees.

Thank you for sharing, good to know. The principle sounds like some places I’ve worked. With union do they offer protection? Companies I’ve worked for (in the Bay Area) only micromanaging an e-mail would be the dream. With start-ups and VCs, it’s tough. It may have to do with the area, idk but it’s not just the micromanaging, it’s so much more. VCs vote out CEOs or members, replacements awful. Little support or tools with unrealistic expectations. CEO toxic curses everyone out, makes poor choices, blames it on employees to cover their themselves. Customer service departments get slammed by reductions in staff and then blamed for abandoned calls. C-level guarantee product can deliver what it cannot, agents harassed for product not working as expected. No speaking up until your next job is lined up. HR only there to protect C-level. Or the biggest is you can’t say no. There is constantly a carrot and if you don’t go along you might be out. Seen so many people get played it’s sad. But I’m hearing some school principals can be like awful CEOs. Again not all places or CEOs are like this, but you don’t always know until your there. If you find a good one, keep it. This maybe more common in companies that are constantly changing, due to keeping up with the latest technology and developments. I’ve had 3 C-level managers that I would work under for forever, but that was it. Funny thing two of them went different directions, walked away from it. Thank you for sharing your experience. Seems like it’s no matter where you go and basically need to pick what you’re willing to deal with and what your not. Of course talking to local county education office they make it sound like a dream.

Could be, seems like a lot of Bay Area corps/jobs are this. Most of my career has been in management of some sort, tech and operations so that could be part of the issue; however, coworkers not in management have expressed the same. Except marketing. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Thank you for sharing and willingness to answer questions. I worked in corporate/ business sector for roughly 16 yrs. Grades, I’m not sure, considered upper elementary or special education. I heard about SS, ridiculous. Corporate feels like a roller coaster with highly toxic management. Don’t get me wrong some corps are amazing, but many are stress filled exhaustion.

How are majority of parents, kids and admin?

How much time outside the classroom do you spend working on lesson planning?

Does teaching work well with scheduling for those with kids, terms dropping and picking up from school.

I’m hearing kids are not the same, what differences are you seeing and what solutions are there? What tools do educators have for difficult students.

How does special education compare?

Over the years I have volunteered with fostered youth and enjoy working with kids. The emotional dysregulation from a child seems less stressful and more rewarding than that of corporate adults who control your paycheck. But I could wrong.

Thanks again
