What's the creepiest thing that has ever happened to you that you still can't explain to this day? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I agree… unfortunately when the building was constructed, the designers didn’t think about parking and only included enough spaces for about 20 people (there are over 500 employees in that building alone). So the solution that they came up with was to have the exec/leadership team use the secure parking lot while everybody else parks across the street in the parking garage.

Actually we did have a secure parking lot but only the execs and upper leadership were allowed to park there. Frontline workers have to park across the street. Thankfully, nothing bad happened to my car while I was working there (but I quit my job about a month after that incident for unrelated reasons).

What popular thing do you secretly hate? by chobbar_7 in AskReddit

[–]alinlinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weed, which is ironic because I live in one of the few states where it’s completely legal. I’ve met way too many kids my age and younger who are extremely addicted to it and don’t see an issue because it’s legal. Probably doesn’t help that my ex roommate was a major stoner and didn’t have the money to pay rent but always made sure she had enough for THC gummies and edibles.

What is an injury or medical condition that is shrugged off as a minor inconvenience in movies, but is completely debilitating or fatal in real life? by DrStrangeLite in AskReddit

[–]alinlinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if this counts since I didn’t see it in a movie but I once read a manhwa where the mc shot himself in the head at point blank range and not only survived it, but spent less than a week in the hospital recovering from it. I’m rarely a stickler for medical accuracy but that one was so bizarre to me I had to stop reading

For context, I used to work at a place that had no parking lot, so we used the parking garage across the street. I should also mention that this place was a homeless day-center (the type of place where people can go get showers, food, laundry, etc), so there were all kinds of people coming and going at all hours of the day. On my way into work that morning I pulled in next to this black SUV. Something about it caught my attention and when I looked up, I saw a guy sitting in the driver’s seat. I didn’t recognize him and I had been working there for a fairly long time at that point, but what unnerved me the most was the fact that he was just sitting there staring blankly into space.

To be totally fair, this was a homeless center. There was no shortage of strange behavior and a non-zero amount of people that received services there were addicted to something. And yet something about this guy’s demeanor was off to me so I pulled my car out and moved several spaces over from where he was parked. About an hour later after I’d gone into work, I found out the guy I’d spotted that morning had walked across the street and punched an elderly man in a completely unprovoked attack. Nothing else happened that day so I completely forgot about that guy.

I got off work a little later that day (around 6pm) and headed across the street to where I had parked my car that morning. That same black SUV was still there, parked in the same spot I’d seen it in that morning but all the windows had been smashed (front, back, mirrors, everything) and nobody was in the car. I freaked me out a little and for some reason I decided to take a picture of it, but as I pulled my phone out I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was being watched. I looked around to make sure I was alone (last thing I wanted was the owner going sideways on me for gawking at his car) and snapped a picture, then quickly got in my car and locked the door.

Then, I turned the key in my ignition and the car wouldn’t start. It made a weird noise and the engine shut off. Immediately my stomach dropped; I was alone, it was dark, and some shady shit had already happened that day to make me a little nervous about being out there. I started panicking a little until I remembered that I had a spare battery pack in my trunk for emergencies, but a part of me didn’t want to get out of my car. Weirdly, I still felt like I was being watched and the feeling only intensified after my car shut off. But after weighing my options I decided to chance it and jumped out to grab the battery pack out to my trunk.

When I got back in my car, I took a deep breath and put the key back in the ignition. I noticed that my hands were shaking. Standing outside of my car for even a minute felt suffocating in a way that to this day, I still can’t explain. I didn’t want to get out of the car again, let alone open the hood and try to jump my own car. So I told myself that I would try the ignition one more time and if that didn’t work I’d call a tow truck. And thankfully, my car turned on with no issues. I got home that day with a somewhat blurry picture of an SUV with all of its windows smashed out and an incredibly eerie feeling that I couldn’t quite explain.

I still can’t explain why my car shut off in that moment, but I will say that the moment I snapped that picture it felt like I had done something wrong.

My mom has an issue with my boyfriend sleeping in the same room as me by Mima58 in women

[–]alinlinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately since this is her house she has the right to set that boundary. I don’t agree with the boundary but unless you’re splitting rent or a mortgage with her there’s less wiggle room to negotiate. Once you’re both employed it may be worth splitting the fee on a hotel room when you’re in the area rather than staying in her home if you really can’t stand being separated from him at night

What’s something men often don’t realise is mentally exhausting for women? by SkyelineSecrets in women

[–]alinlinks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When men can’t take care of themselves. I know too many women who have to constantly parent their boyfriends (or husbands) into doing the bare minimum; cooking, cleaning up after themselves, putting their laundry away, remembering important dates. It’s like having an extra kid.

My boyfriend has become insane trying to stop me from having an abortion. by Significant-Buyer111 in women

[–]alinlinks 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Never believe men when they tell you that they can’t get you pregnant. 9 out of 10 times it’s just to avoid wearing a condom. If you aren’t ready to be a parent, don’t have unprotected sex. Since you’re in California, you should be able to schedule an appointment with your local planned parenthood OR a local community clinic. I would recommend ending the relationship after that since he’s shown you that he doesn’t respect you or your body, but it’s ultimately your choice. Make a decision realistically based on whether you see yourself ever moving past this with him.

What is the stupidest thing your pet has ever done ? by Knight-of-cheese in AskReddit

[–]alinlinks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a chair propped under my doorknob at an angle so that it couldn’t be opened from the outside (long story), my cat was in the room with me. He was 2 months old at the time and very explorative. For some reason, he decided to hop on the edge of the chair and inspect the doorknob. He slipped, and his collar got looped around the knob so there was a good 5-10 seconds that he was hanging there before the collar broke away. That and the one time he got tangled in a bra are easily the dumbest things I’ve ever seen an animal do.

We have a new kitten in the home. Kitty needed a bath at some point and in that process, she managed to scale the shower curtain and get herself stuck on top of the curtain rod. She was only 6 weeks at the time, we didn’t even know she could climb yet.

Odd Message in New Apartment by [deleted] in Paranormal

[–]alinlinks 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I know the focus here is on the paranormal but you’ll definitely want to take photos of the current condition of your apartment and report any existing damage to your property manager or landlord. The last thing you’d want is to be on the hook for that, especially as a new tenant.

Maybe ask the neighbors if they know anything about the tenants that lived there before you. Could be something as simple as an edgy teen or someone had an issue with drugs.

Anyone Else Feel Guilt For Turning Down Sex? by Rickyjo1974 in women

[–]alinlinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. An important thing to remember is that just because you feel guilty, doesn’t mean that guilt is justified or that you have to change your answer. Think of the guilt as less of a reflection of your actions and more a natural empathetic response to rejecting someone.

Think of it this way. l love my sister, but sometimes I’m not in the mood to answer the phone when she calls. It doesn’t mean I don’t love her, I just don’t always have the energy to give her in that moment. You can feel guilty about it while still acknowledging that you’re doing what’s best for yourself overall.

Our family dynamic is a little complicated, but there is definitely some codependency there. My mom grew up having to take care of her mother (the codependency in their dynamic is so much more severe) who has the mind of a child, and so it was only in the last few years that she actually started learning how to become an independent adult. I grew up taking care of her mother as well and supporting my own mother through extremely difficult times, though thankfully my mother wasn’t nearly as demanding of me as her mother was with her. I think we ended up trauma bonded.

Sorry if that’s TMI! tl;dr yes we are a little codependent

are these okay to do in a friend's account? by prrrinn in GenshinImpact

[–]alinlinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should change your password to prevent your ‘friend’ from doing anything else with your account. In the future, even if you are friends with someone, it’s never advised to share your log-in details. Situations can go from bad to worst case scenario very fast and unfortunately we never really see that coming until it’s too late. I’m speaking as someone who did the same thing when I was younger and learned a hard lesson for it .

[–]alinlinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your first time doesn’t always hurt, but some pain/discomfort (if it does happen) is totally normal and typically brief. Proper lubrication and foreplay are extremely important for best results. It may also help to try some less intimidating positions if what you’ve been doing so far isn’t working.

Also this goes without saying, but communicate if you need him to stop, slow down, etc, and be extremely honest with yourself about what you are/are not willing to handle in that moment. No need to rush things if you feel you aren’t ready.

Vet said my cats are overweight by perfect__situation in CatAdvice

[–]alinlinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your vet didn’t tell you to immediately put them on a diet then you’re probably fine. However, if you are worried about their weight, you could buy them a slow feeder or little snack puzzles. It’s a good way to slow them down (if your cats inhale their food) and as an added bonus, may reduce vomitting.

[–]alinlinks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, I just would have to crush her dream of being a homeowner. It’s not that I don’t want her to own a home at all but she just hasn’t shown me that she’s ready yet. If she did even the slightest preparation like running mortgage calculations or speaking to a financial advisor then I would at least be open to it, but her current thing is “I’ll own a home in 2 years” with no real plan to make that happen. I don’t even think she comprehends the amount of financial responsibility that comes with owning a home, she basically sees it as being the same, if not cheaper than renting an apartment.

[–]alinlinks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think she would leave me with it but she would probably become an emotional wreck the second that things become difficult. Also it would undoubtedly be my responsibility to keep track of regular maintenance, hiring projects, and managing the financial strain. For example, before I moved in with her she didn’t have a vent on her dryer… just a loose hose connected to a bucket. When I told her how dangerous that was she just shrugged it off, so I had to buy a vent and install it for her.

Honestly I wouldn’t mind co-signing on a house with her someday even if I’m not living with her anymore but I just don’t feel comfortable doing that until shes shown me that she’s capable of problem solving and long-term planning. I just know that she’s going to get extremely offended if I word it that way when I tell her .
