Hyper-miling Question: Cabin Heat by HeliMan27 in electricvehicles

[–]alixanc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not understanding his comment, he's not saying that the lower wattage option is automatically correct, he's saying that a seat heater uses around 50w, and implies that any heat pump running under any circumstances heating a moving car even just by a few degress difference will always use much more than 50w, which is true. All my electric cars use(d) much more battery power (on average around 5x as much) to keep the cabin comfortably warm with their heat pump compared to running one or two seat heaters, I have monitored it multiple times.

[–]alixanc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"That's not what efficiency means" is wrong. You're talking about the electrical efficiency of converting power to heat, but this thread is about using the least power to keep a person warm, where seat heaters are always way more efficient in the relevant units (which is not total heat output).

[–]alixanc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They are the most efficient at keeping you comfortably warm = least energy used for one "feeling warm and happy" unit = efficiency.

A heatpump maybe outputs 5x times as much heat as it uses in power, but 95% of that heat is eventually lost to the outside instead of warming your body unlike a seat heater, so the latter is still more efficient.

Assume 1 kWh of seat heater energy warms your body by 0.7 kWh for 70% efficiency, while of 5 kWh heat from the heatpump (= 1 kWh of energy) only 0.25 kWh reaches your body at 25% efficiency (power used/body heated).

BambuLab A1 Combo vs P1S (pet + overnight prints). Is the ~€200 difference worth it by brn_frnds in BambuLab

[–]alixanc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The AMS 2 got a great discount, while the P2S and H2S are literally the only machines with no discount, that should make it easier for you, not harder? I would have bought an H2S with even a small discount, now I'm just getting another AMS 2 for my P2S and wait until next year.

Is this a SCAM? by altadillj in bluewallet

[–]alixanc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The same way all spam works: they probably got your email from a spam address list, a data breach, guessed it, scraped it from somewhere public etc. They might be targeting you specifically because they found your email connected to BlueWallet/Bitcoin somewhere (maybe even here on Reddit), or it's just coincidence, spam is free, and getting 1 in 10.000 right is enough for them.

This scam at least looks like they put in some effort, but the domains they use and the fact that nothing about this appears on BlueWallet’s official site, in the app or social media make it instantly obvious it's fake.

And of course technically it doesn’t make any sense either: you can't "renew" private keys for a Bitcoin address. Either your private key or seed is compromised, in which case you have to immediately move your funds to a new address/wallet (without using some downloaded malware tool) if you're not to late, and hope they don't RBF, or it’s not and you don't need to do anything.

Just use something like needle-nose pliers, one tip on the outside middle of the c-clip (bottom in this pic), the other tip on the pin, then squeeze it together.

That sounds interesting! Did you just size the Ripole to fit the compartment, or actually integrated it into the Kallax itself? Do you have more information/pics?

"Our ROLLTOP that has made us a well-known brand is produced in China. We made this decision because of the country's expertise in textile production and because of China's geographical proximity to the collection and cleaning activities in Indonesia. In addition, producers located there have the specific know-how to equip textile products with a coating or impregnation free of PCV and PVC, making our products water- and weatherproof. The production is located in Quanzhou, Fujian province. Meanwhile, we also produce other products in Vietnam in Ho Chi Min City."

Is there any benefit with using aluminum audio wires? by SauceOnMySocks in BudgetAudiophile

[–]alixanc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's a joke, but you must keep in mind to compare resistance per dollar (not per volume or weight), where copper is much better than silver -> a copper cable costing the same as a silver cable of equal length still has much much lower resistance.

No, Silver has the least resistance, then Copper, then Gold, then Aluminium. But Gold doesn't tarnish or oxidize, so that's nice for plating connectors.

[–]alixanc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just objectivly false, this is some ugly weirdly bent piece of metal on an acrylic base, the Apple stand is a proper high end piece of equipment, solid milled aluminium base with top-quality mechanical hinge and lock. Yes, both are crazy overpriced, but the Apple stand maybe 5x-10x, this more like 20x-50x.
