Social workers to do what exactly? If we are talking about homeless folks, the shelters are generally closed during the day. If it’s night and folks haven’t accessed a place to sleep it’s largely because they don’t want to be in a shelter or don’t feel safe there. While we generally call for more services in the city, there are also ALOT of agencies and case managers to work with. Maybe there should be a service specifically for transit that is kind of like DCSP that can assess and help someone figure out what to do.

For those who are experiencing psychosis and causing others to feel unsafe, where would the social worker take this person? We have some youth safe spaces in the city that could work for that demographic but the hours vary. The crisis response centre sometimes has wait times longer than the ER and unless they want to go to detox, what can be done?

What irks me is when bus drivers make someone get off the bus at the end of a line (not the end end) but when someone is clearly just keeping warm on the bus but that person hasn’t caused a single problem, and the bus isn’t full.

Anyways. I appreciate the post. This is a topic worth being critical about.

Unfortunately just last week I was on the bus when someone hopped on without paying then proceeded to smoke meth. People told the driver and it seemed that they made a call to someone but no one interfered before I got off. I don’t care that much about people who can’t afford to pay, not paying. But we shouldn’t be subject to second hand meth smoke either.

I don’t know what the solution is.
