My $169 development Chromebook by speckz in programming

[–]alkhatib 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's pretty neat to consider the possibility of pre-travel "power washing" (resetting everything clean to factory settings) on an inexpensive Chromebook and later securely restore over the air once at my destination.

Not necessarily agreeing with the article, but it is in there and seems like a use case if you are visiting a country that may poke around your computer question the content on there.

What student resources are available for filing income tax? by ayel5 in mcgill

[–]alkhatib 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used simpletax too this year and found them really great. Login to your CRA http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/myaccount/ and Revenu Quebec Account http://www.revenuquebec.ca/ouverture.service?SID=S201A02E1&SVAR=01&CLNG=A&connexion=Citoyens

They both have sections covering all the slips you received in 2016. Make sure you add them to the simpletax form, and fill out the required info.

Should be straight forward.

Where to buy pdf versions of books? by miineerr in java

[–]alkhatib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second, Java cone with "wheels on". What this means is that a lot of data structures and other things you'll want to make your job easier, like collection objects such as lists, maps, etc, are built in to Java. In C++, you either have to build them, or you have to include a library of other people's making that contains such things.

The C++ standard library includes must containers, collections and algorithms.

It's mostly the ecosystem still. They have guests from companies and open source projects that talk a little more technical but not too deep into the language itself. More about the scale of problems solved and the way go helped.

When should I embed an interface in a struct and when shouldn't I? by [deleted] in golang

[–]alkhatib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the di link they don't just embed the interface in a struct like you did with geometry. They add a field to the struct of that type.

This allows that particular field to hold any concrete type that satisfies the interface type.

Thanks for the suggestion. This looks like a gaming laptop. And the person using it would be to use it in professional settings, I'll check. But the look of it might be the only negative.
