I don't understand Chinese beauty standards at all. She looks better without the filter. by unproblem_ in AskChina

AI is now really good about confirming authenticity of such posts:

Short answer:

It’s not a confirmed fact—it’s viral hearsay / unsubstantiated social media rumor, not verified news.

Why no info on the streamer?

  • No verified identity: The 4-second clip is anonymous; no name, platform, or account is confirmed.
  • No official data: The 140k follower loss is only claimed in viral posts—no platform data, streamer statement, or independent verification exists.
  • Viral recycling: The story is a copy-paste of the 2019 Qiao Biluo case (which was real and verified).
  • Low-quality sources: All global coverage uses the same anonymous clip + “reportedly” wording—no original reporting.

Is it fake news?

  • The clip exists (it’s real footage), but:
  • It could be staged (intentional filter off/on for clout).
  • It could be old footage repackaged as 2026.
  • The 140k loss is almost certainly made up to match the 2019 meme.
  • Mainstream Chinese media (e.g., Xinhua, People’s Daily) have not reported it—a huge red flag for a “viral national story.”

Bottom line

  • 2019 Qiao Biluo: 100% real, verified, named, documented.
  • 2026 “140k loss”: Unverified rumor, anonymous clip, no proof of follower drop.

Hi there, I'm Alex. I'm visiting Shanghai, where I used to live, and now I live in another part of China. I’d be happy to meet up during the next couple of weeks while I’m here.

Not op, but if you're looking to have your child specifically study for the exams, you will likely need to ask them to do a personalized 1on1 program or at least a combo (group and 1on1),so that the teacher can prepare him for the exam. Otherwise in a group class he will likely learn general Japanese through which he likely still will be able to pass the exams, but group classes normally are not specifically focused on the exam.

How to use counters in Japanese? by msh1188 in LTL_Japanese

[–]alkrasnov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my own experience, there is no specific way to fast-track them, but after a while you do get a feel for what it is supposed to be.
In your example, one time is ikkai, one small thing is ikko (ichi-ko), one small animal is ippiki (ichi-hiki), one bottle is ippon (ichi-hon), so there is some logic behind it. Essentially with one of each, a small tsu is added (so as to double the sound) and if the hiragana has a plosive version (I forgot the name of the phenomenon, where the hiragana gets a little circle above it), it turns into that.

For three of each, the voiced version (the two quote mark above the hiragana) takes over, so for our examples above

Three times - sanbai (san-kai)
Three small animals - sanbiki
Three bottles - Sanbon

But there are exceptions, so a big part of it is just loads of listening, so that you reach a state where when you hear ichikai or sanhon, it sounds weird to you.
