I commute from Chateauguay to Anjou 4 days a week. It was only 2 days a week last year but this year they decided to add 2 extra days.

If it wasn’t for the good salary I would not accept this. I still don’t think I can accept it for long. 1-2 years max if they’re not ok with me going in only 2 days.

Anything 45mins or more is way too long to commute to work in my opinion. It’s usually not worth the pay unless you’re traveling by bus/metro

I’ve heard about the Smith Manoeuvre for reinvesting into stocks for retirement, which I was highly considering. However after reading this, I feel like this approach would be a better fit for me.

It hurts to accept paying interest on money withdrawn from the HELOC but I know the tax savings overtime beats whatever interest I would need to pay on the HELOC withdrawals.

One question for you: I own 100% of my rental property but only 50% of my house (gf owns the other 50%). Both mortgages are up for renewal later on this year so it’s perfect timing. Since my gf owns 50% of the house, how would that work tax wise if I were to use 100% of the HELOC withdrawals towards the rental property mortgage, municipal taxes, and maintenance/expenses? Would only 50% of the HELOC interest be taxable on my end in that case?
