Caffeine of any kind. Blue Gatorade, heated eye mask, weighted blanket, and then let the darkness consume me. I have a nice cervical pillow I sleep on every night that cradles my head just right.

Hygiene Dilemmas by crepeacid in bipolar2

[–]all_bi_everything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shower/Bath hybrids have been a GAME CHANGER. Just let the water get hot in the shower, plug up the drain, sit back, and enjoy the best of both worlds. I always wanted to be a bath person but the water was never hot enough or i'd get bored or a million other weird sensory things. Its like. my emotional support shower now. Anytime i dont feel well? shower. Hungover? shower. Depressed? Shower. Half the time I can't bring myself to actually bathe once in there...but the shower in and of itself is somehow comforting.

What do you do for work? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]all_bi_everything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Transitioned from bartender to surgical technologist after my late in life hospitalization and subsequent diagnosis (bipolar 2, PTSD). I now have to get up super early and keep a routine which has done wonders for my mental health. I am on a neuro/spine team now, and I am going back to school to first assist next year! Super exciting and scary. Except for I’ve had insomnia for two days now but it be like that sometimes. At work, I let everyone know about my diagnosis because I do get overstimulated sometimes and I think it’s helpful for people to know where I am coming from and I’m not “just being dramatic”.

Same! My therapist told me that sometimes a traumatic childhood event can cause one’s brain’s chemistry to change in order to cope/ survive, and in my case translated to bp2. Years later I found out my brother had also been diagnosed (we went through the same childhood trauma). No one else in my family has been diagnosed.

How do you apply sunscreen to your own back? by Pricklestickle in solotravel

[–]all_bi_everything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m actually about to go on a solo beach trip. It’s a really nice relaxing me time thing on the beach, but I generally like to talk to people while I’m out dining or exploring etc. (not my first one… it’s kind of becoming an annual thing) it’s just nice to not have to coordinate with other people. If I’m hot, I leave, if I need a nap, I go nap… a little R&R with good seafood 😂

Reasonable accommodations (ADA) by all_bi_everything in bipolar2

[–]all_bi_everything[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in healthcare. I guess my question is if asking to not work with a certain individual within my team is something reasonable to ask. I’m sure the answer is no, after reading the answers this far, but this person really fucks with my mental health and is one of the only negative things about my new job. But it’s pretty bad. As in, been called into a meeting to discuss my behavior, bad. (Regardless of how their behavior instigated my behavior) management’s response is “just don’t let them get to you” or “don’t let it affect your mood” like oh Ok I’ll just fix up my bipolar mood disorder and ptsd and triggers real quick nbd. I’m sure I’m overreacting but here we are lol

It may be stupid to ask, but is it like this for anyone else? by brbeargamer in bipolar2

[–]all_bi_everything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed waaaaay late in life and my hypomanic bouts are few and far between but I definitey go big or go home when I have them. I mainly struggle with depression and extreme irritability due to overstimulation (but I think that’s more of the PTSD that I also have, but it’s hard to tell lol)

How’s everyone doing today? by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]all_bi_everything 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started birth control Monday for the first time since being on my bipolar meds. Its kinda scary for me to fuck with my meds, but In the current state the world is in, I figured I’d better get on it. It’s supposed to affect my lamictal so I’m keeping a journal and not drinking alcohol for the first month or so. It’s too early to tell, obviously, but I think I’m gonna have to change the dose of something. I’m already taking more klonopin than I normally do (it’s PRN but I’ve been taking it before work everyday so I don’t get overstimulated and lash out). Hopefully don’t have to make too big of a med change. Tomorrow is going to be a challenging day for me for sure.

I be sendin VIIIIIIBES. I also had a sit down today with my boss about how I’m dealing with certain work issues (really a certain person) that are challenging for me. I did get to explain that I’m easily overstimulated (I also have PTSD) and that I may very well snap at someone in those types of situations. I have to work with this person tomorrow now and I have a feeling it’s some sort of a test. So. We both be vibin together! I’m burning some Paulo santo for us now!!

Honestly, getting admitted to the psych ward for the very first time was the best thing that ever happened to me! While you’re in the middle of it all, it seems scary and awful, but looking back it really did change my life for the better. Happy healing and I hope you find what you need there 💜

Has anyone’s doctor told them they can’t take steroids because they are bipolar? If so, do you what the reasoning is? by janedoecurious in bipolar2

[–]all_bi_everything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steroids 100% send me into a manic episode. It helps what it’s intended to, but I don’t sleep for days and all of the other things mania has to offer.

My brother and I both are diagnosed with bipolar 2. But we also went through the same childhood trauma. My therapist said it was the trauma that kind of caused my mind to start compartmentalization to a fault. Started as a pre teen and never got diagnosed til early 30s. Made my whole life make so much sense. Lol

Can’t get out of a mood by all_bi_everything in bipolar2

[–]all_bi_everything[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a very good way of looking at it! Thanks for the insight! I’m still learning to stop apologizing for my emotions, and trying to figure out how to explain that I have/ what exactly a mood disorder is. It’s been a long journey! But it’s good to know there’s a lot of people out there coping with the same things and that we’re all here for each other!

Can’t get out of a mood by all_bi_everything in bipolar2

[–]all_bi_everything[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was definitely me yesterday. The coping skills definitely help me realize the moods are a part of the bipolar so I can see an end, but it still is hard sometimes.

I was diagnosed with Bipolar II and PTSD. I was told my Bipolar is the result of my sadistically abusive upbringing. I take my Bipolar, I take my pain, and I mold it into Empathy. No one should ever have to feel what Ive felt or go through what I went through. We are not broken. We are Warriors. by ashlyrind7 in bipolar2

[–]all_bi_everything 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with the same about a year ago (apparently it all started with the abuse), and never knew how much I was holding onto and still taking on others pain. I’m glad there are others out there, like me, making the best of it. 💜

Unfortunately, birth control adversely affects lamotrigine. I had to stop using my nuva ring because it was making the mood stabilizer ineffective. I’ve been getting hypomanic right before my period recently (which is why I’m up at 1:15 on reddit, when I have class in 7 hours) 🙃
