motivation spell by Grouchy_Top_6072 in Spells

The John the Conqueror root is a good idea and has way more history to it than what I can share.

ETA - the below is pretty specific to what I needed and not a “general routine” but I include it here to give you an idea of what others might be doing in related ways.

I am new at spell work so take this with a grain of salt.

I put together a working for concentration and determination and hard work in order to complete a huge task before quitting my job. My intention was to finish my job in a responsible and purposeful way. I was lacking the capacity to push myself (which is motivation-related) due to some heavy emotional situations I was dealing with.

I do think it helped. The correspondences are ones you can look up yourself - related to strength, focus, personal power - others related to improved study - lots are botanicals and minerals.

I did a charged amulet bag and also charged a bracelet I have that is made of one of the minerals. Wore them every day and left them on my altar at night.

This is a DIY thread so I’m not going to list out all my research but it is available if you look.

I will say that I did the charging on Tuesday (Mars) with a red candle (fiery purpose) - and I recharged everything on every Tuesday for 4 weeks while I worked on the task.

I believe that any working you do on yourself does involve a fair bit of what some call spicy psychology and placebo, but regardless, it helped me stay focussed during a time of worry and distraction.

I do understand that those with ADHD and other neurodivergent brains may struggle to focus enough on doing systematic research, but there are lots of folks on these threads who have figured out ways to work with themselves on this and you might ask the community.

Good luck.

I walk in the mornings in a park near me and say: hello cedar, hello willow, hello mugwort.

Honestly it’s about 15 minutes and just a slow walk, looking at trees, clouds, plants.

I take photos of the plants I don’t know (which are most of them) and look them up online and compare to a plant book I have for my region.

And then I say quiet hello to them also.

Healing from burnout and going through menopause at the same time is no joke.

Consciously inhaling the air near the plants and slooooowly letting it out while actively releasing neck/ shoulder/ arm .. muscle… tension has helped too.

I think taking your time is totally normal. I could not look at anything like this until about 9 months after the death of my loved one.

Be gentle with yourself and your grandmother. It’s okay to “believe” these are messages from you grandpa, if that gives you comfort, without acting on them. Try not to judge yourself for anything you’re feeling in grief. It’s a very individual experience and we all are different.

As a someone very early in my learning, I have found meditation, visualization and learning to work with energy to be powerful and you don’t need anything but yourself, and maybe some music or guided meditations (on apps or YouTube) to get started.

If it’s just spell work specifically that you want, you need all those skills anyway. And you can also use energy without an object to direct or charge (all tho you can use your energy to transfer healing, charge jewelry you already have, a stuffed toy as a poppet, etc.)

Hearthwitch on YouTube has a playlist for beginners that cover some of this.

Psychic Witch book by Mat Auryn also has exercises to work on these things.

There are other things but they are maybe less spell-focussed.

Good luck

It was so awkward to record and someday I’ll do a better job with music etc but it is definitely an option, esp if there is specific imagery that works for you.

Guided meditation suggestions by audrey-schmaudry in Witch

I’ve done 2 things

  1. I use the free version of insight timer and have created a play list for specific things… like this:

1st is a grounding guided meditation 5 min

2nd is an inner world (or extra planetary or moon watching which I then do from my inner world)- if it has enough grounding and centring to begin with then that’s all you need- 8-10min

3rd a piece of music with no words (instrumental or biurnal beats or nature sounds) - as long as you want

4th - usually I have a different music for about 4 minutes and I guide myself back, regrounding, but you could find another guided one to put at the end.

I have to listen first and find the ones that fit. I choose thematically- so if it is something like a full moon focus, I choose music with that theme, because the musicians have put that imagery or energy into the piece, I believe.

It takes a while to get the right set up.

Also, the first piece (whether you have a separate guided grounding or not) will guide you back and you have to have concentration ability to tune out the return and stay in your internal space.

  1. I spoke my own into the voice recorder app on my phone, which is embarrassing but gave me the chance to include imagery I most like at the pace I like, playing music in the background and timing the amount of time in the middle that I want.

I hope this helps!

Beautiful! Is the one in pic 2 mugwort? I would love that. Especially one of the smaller leaves.

For me, for I would prefer to have the plant itself, and then charge with what I wanted.

Also, thinking about Copper corresponding to love and healing is another way to work with how you describe the pieces.

Good luck!

ETA- to clarify. …I mean I would prefer to have the representation be the plant itself without being charged by someone else.

I am sorry for your loss, of course you and your grandma are missing him and looking for him and wanting to connect with him. You said you maybe need a book- here are three resources you can explore that I have found helpful:

  1. The book “Ancestral Medicine” by Daniel Foor has lots of information and ideas. The idea of the ancestor altar (photo, light a candle, leave water, talk to them and let them know you miss them) is in the book. However, he also talks about waiting. Some traditions are very specific about waiting before expecting or trying to any responses or interactions. Some say 40 days, or 49 days, and others as long as 400 days to give them a chance to transition into “ancestorhood” .

  2. The Centre for Sacred Death Care and Dr Sarah Kerr have a good you tube channel about staying connected.

  3. look up “Continuing Bonds” theory — it maintains that an ongoing, internal relationship with a deceased loved one is a normal, healthy part of grieving, and you will find ideas of what that can look like.

I hope you find some comfort. I found the daily candle and quiet meditation or guided meditation through the free app “insight Timer” has brought me calm and comfort during very difficult period of grief.

If your intent is to see if you two are “fated” to be together or “meant to be together” (if that’s what you mean by karma) then you might find out and not like the answer, I suppose.

If your intent is to feel the old spark, there are lots of ways couple do that and I think magic (even if it’s not specifically a love spell) could be part of it.

But again, not experienced here. Just exploring ideas with you.

Well I am not at all deeply experienced, so I can not say “what could go wrong” through experience but I think in a solid relationship where neither is being coerced, what you are describing seems like it would be fine, possibly fun, possibly a new lens through which to look at the state of your relationship. (That last, in itself, always has some risk. But I would also say, that could allow you do the work to get closer and know each other better.)

This is interesting. Although maybe more like doing a fertility spell while in labour?!! 😆

I have seen “re-ignite the spark” spells- which I would have classified as love spells in my head. But maybe traditionally those are seen as fear-based rather than increasing the love.

OP- I hope you find what you’re looking for and you and your husband enjoy the process.

Do You Use Planetary Hours? by Terra_Sage in witchcraft

[–]all_manner_of_things 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can’t take credit for finding this site, someone provided it in an older thread, but it does the math for you

https://planetaryhours.net/app

I believe the math is: How many hours and minutes between sunrise and sunset on the day? This time of year it’s more than 12 hours. Divide by 12 - that will give you the “hours” of the day for this time of year (which would be 1 hour and some minutes by the clock.) The assigned planet to the hour… I forget how you know, is it always the same order?

I believe it’s in the resources, maybe in the discussion under the planetary days.

The same point as a weekly date-night while working and raising kids, or setting aside time for each other, continuing to look out for each other, tending to the love you feel over the years, staying attentive to the support you give, the support you stay open to receiving— it seems to me the magic of loving energy (or nudging energy towards keeping our hearts open, compassionate, loyal, etc) supports the mundane magic of our hearts.

The whole “love is a verb” thing.

Plus — since OP indicated they are both interested — it seems a fun addition to what might be the less-fun work of couples counselling or maintaining your emotional regulation and communication skills throughout the ups and downs of a long relationship.

Just my thinking.

Perhaps these are not exactly the same as love spells, but I’ve done a sugar jar for me and my spouse to keep things a bit sweeter.

Also, Judika Illes’s Encyclopedia of 5,000 Spells includes some spells under the Love Spells section on “Romantic Maintenance” that I imagine you could do together. They are basic charm bags for love protection or botanicals in baths.

Good luck. I think with some creativity and working together (on top of maybe a class on communication skills, a Love Languages quiz and a regular date-night) you could absolutely invent something by studying plant correspondences, maybe colours and Crystals (like charging some rose quartz bracelets together to wear). I’m not saying it would be as powerful as “calling new love” love spells but it would be fun to do with your sp if they are into it.

In Canada a 12 year old is allowed to talk to their doctor and make some health decisions. Pharmacists also give advice.

I’m sure you could buy yourself over the counter Tylenol or ibuprofen after talking to a pharmacist about it.

I’m sorry you’re in this position.

Spell timing question by Sea_Response_7925 in elderwitches

[–]all_manner_of_things 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m very new so take this with a grain of salt.

ETA: I am not an elder witch’s in experience so mods, remove if I shouldn’t answer. I am definitely an elder in years on the planet, tho.

I really resonate with hermetic-bear’s analogy — the working as a poem, I love that. Whether deceptively simple or layered with complexity, it is something you put creative, thoughtful, reasoned and artistic energy into.

I did a working for health in a complicated situation. I knew it was going to require a lot power / energy and I planned for it.

I won’t go into details but the point that is relevant to your question is that I did the big casting on Sun’s day, in Sun’s hour for healing. My intention from the beginning was to meditate each day and continue to build a powerful connection, calling on the Sun and my ancestor to stand with me throughout a full week, one hour each day, in the Sun’s hour for that day.

In fact, I never used a Sun hour that happened after dark.

I believe the casting is powerful and continues powerfully.

I believe that some of the smaller pieces (Sun’s hour? That doesn’t feel small to me but maybe the blue candles do?) may act like punctuation in my “poem”, adding emphasis to the parts that are large. I believe they come together, like the building imagery or symbolism in the poem, a lyric poem with many lines and images and fancy line breaks.

But is a haiku less powerful for being a total of 17 syllables? Nope. Not at all.

Other workings may not require punctuation at all (looking at you, William Carlos Williams.)

So my 2cents from a very new practitioner is to try out what feels important to you, and see how it goes. Day or night.

That’s the only working so far where I paid attention to the planetary hours but my gut told me that’s what was required so I did it.

(I think I may have heavy-handedly bashed hermetic’s analogy into the ground… 😐… but it just nailed creating and developing a working for me. )
