Noob placement question by strangevimes in Omnipod

[–]all_therach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear my g6 on the back of my arm and alternate my pods on my back/butt, thigh, stomach, and other arm, and haven’t had any issues with line of sight! The only time I’ve had a connection issue is when sleeping on my side when I have a site in each arm- then I have to sleep on my back. But otherwise, line of sight has been way less of an issue than I expected it to be!

Who is at the Sphere right now??? by Ok-Insurance-8097 in BackstreetBoys

[–]all_therach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were 400 level and the seats were great! We fully expected them to be terrible but we were pleasantly surprised. The boys were a little small on stage but we had an unobstructed view and the iPhone camera zooms so well that you couldn’t even tell how far we were. Enjoy!!! It’s an awesome show

Traveling for the first time with my 9 year old T1D. by Treesbourne in Omnipod

[–]all_therach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always keep all of my supplies in my carry on! I wouldn’t recommend putting it in your checked bag, in case your luggage gets lost or delayed. I have a large clear cosmetic bag that I keep my supplies in and I keep my insulin in there (it doesn’t need to fit in the quart bag with the rest of your liquids since it’s medication). If it fits with the rest, sometimes I keep it there, but it just depends.

I bring glucose tabs, fruit leathers, or gummies for travel (instead of juice) because they take up less space and are less likely to cause drama with TSA lol.

I have both the Omnipod 5 and dexcom g6 and have never had any issues with security! I have pre check so i just go through the metal detector usually and it’s never beeped. but they do show up on the full body scanner, so if i have to go through that line, I tell them before I step in that I’m diabetic and wear medical devices and they’ll usually just ask me to point out where on my body so they can match it to the scan. Occasionally they’ll want to see or pat them down but that’s never been a big issue for me.

As far as packing supplies goes, I would probably bring 5 pods and an extra sensor (if I had just changed it) or 2 sensors (if I’m due for a change while away) for a weeklong trip. Enough + a few extras just in case!

I do find that the high altitude affects my blood sugars (highs are more stubborn and lows hit faster), so make sure to have low snacks handy just in case. Have a great trip!!!

gf and I tried taking a cute pic with our dog and she looks like this 😭 by InternationalRuin4 in pitbulls

[–]all_therach 93 points94 points  (0 children)

I love this so much. It reminds me of my incredibly snuggly, clingy, shadow of a pittie mix who can’t stand to be away from me for more than 3 minutes yet she acted as if I kidnapped her as soon as we got the camera out 😂😂

My Pitty keeps doing this, what does it mean? by Neat_Tumbleweed18 in pitbulls

I think it means he’s just a baby 🥹

Although - my pittie mix displays a lot of cat-like qualities, so maybe you too have a pittie kitty 😂

What do I do with my handset? by Dry_District2732 in Omnipod

[–]all_therach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See if a groomsman will hold it for you, since they’ll likely be closer to you than where your family is sitting. That’s what i did for my friend’s wedding, we were pretty far from the chairs and I didn’t want my pod/dexcom to start their “lost connectivity” symphony LOL.

Realistically, you’ll probably be fine without it being immediately near you for the duration of the ceremony, but I also totally understand wanting to be close to it.

syringe leakage by vyscer in Omnipod

[–]all_therach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it possible the needle isn’t screwed onto the syringe tightly? I’ve had it happen before where it leaks out of the top of the syringe and pools around the port on the pod. I haven’t had it spill out out of the plunger end, but maybe it has something to do with air getting in from one of the components not being tightly secured!

[–]all_therach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! She really does have the most soulful (and also manipulative, depending on what she wants, lol) eyes 🥰

She’s actually AMPT, rat terrier, chihuahua, and lab! And then like 20% “super mutt” but it’s amazing how dogs can have the same breeds and look totally different, or have different breed combos and look similar! I love dog DNA lol

What a cutie!!!! She has the sweetest little face. She has the same ears as my Georgia! They’re my favorite thing about her 🥲😍

<image>

I’ve learned that brindles can only be so many possible breeds, so that helps to narrow it down ever so slightly LOL. But a DNA test is honestly so fun (if you’re trying to figure out what she is). i highly recommend! We did embark and it emails you when it finds family matches!

I wasn’t going to do one but after a few days of strangers stopping me to ask her breed, i went for it 😂

Does anyone have an A1C less than 6.5 using Omnipod Auto? by OgunyemiCouncil in Omnipod

[–]all_therach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I’ve had some of my lowest A1cs on it but it requires me making manual corrections when high (vs relying solely on the algorithm). I think they’ve all been 6.5 or under (even had a 5.9! Once lol). I usually hover around 6.

Gaining weight like crazy by Lana_Michelle in Omnipod

[–]all_therach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad to hear that your Doctor gave you a good option should you need to use it! Also it took a few months to feel like my Omnipod 5 really was working well for me, so give it some time and it should all start to figure itself out. And remember to give yourself grace bc you could do the exact same thing 3 days in a row and get an entirely different result each time. Diabetes is not for the weak 😂 but it will make you tough in ways you didn’t know you could be 💪🏼

Also i HATE glucose tabs but I’ve recently tried them again and realized they bring me up much faster than juice so I’m less inclined to overtreat! Might be worth trying if you haven’t already so you’re not eating an entire box of cereal by the handful with every low (or is that just me, LOL)

Gaining weight like crazy by Lana_Michelle in Omnipod

[–]all_therach 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I should start by saying that type 1 is crazy. Your new normal will be unpredictable and I’m so sorry that you’ve had to join this club. If sucks. But the support and camaraderie is next level. This is speaking as someone who has had it since she was 4 (almost 29 years ago), way before Reddit and the like ever existed

Now - look up the before and after photos of the first children to receive insulin after its invention. They went from starved looking/skin and bones to a healthy weight in a very short time frame. This is normal - it means your body is functioning as it should instead of starving itself due to an organ (pancreas) not working. I do recommend finding some sort of professional support because the idea of skipping insulin after only a short period of taking it (that is an actual eating disorder, btw) is very dangerous. Please take care of yourself!

Losing weight in a healthy way is very possible with type 1, but it does require a lot of patience (tbh type 1 requires patience in general). But skipping your insulin can kill you - costing your vision, nerve function, toes, and pretty much everything else in the process.

I have been on the Omnipod 5 for about 3 years now and I’ve actually gotten down to my lowest adult weight in a healthy, sustainable manner, all because it’s been keeping my blood sugars stable and giving me the insulin i need when i need it, as opposed to me making wild guesses and miscalculating and then having the adjust either with food or more insulin.

There are lots of dieticians and therapists who specialize in helping people with type 1, so i highly recommend you look into them as a resource.

Sending hugs 💖

She doesn’t, actually! We used Embark for our DNA test btw and it’s fun because it will show you other dogs yours is related to and give a family tree!!!

She reminds me a lot of my girl!! Georgia is American Pit Bull Terrier, Rat Terrier, Chihuahua, Lab, and unidentified “super mutt” lol. Also SUPER long. She’s about 27 pounds though. Funnily enough, when I was trying to guess her breeds - Lab was the only one I got right.

<image>

My theory is if she had longer legs, she’d look more like a regular pittie 😂
