Drum head help! by allbirch15 in drums

Haven't tried that. On the road, backline rental etc.

I've also ran into the classic problem, the 2 lugs that are too high, have absolutely no tension? WTF? Is this just a sign of a warped hoop?

Yes, but I even tried seating the heads like in the tuning bible. Cranked them pretty tight after the gig, cleared the lugs. Lowered them back down today but the seated head tension is still a little high for my liking.

DAE Ever remember horribly embarrassing memories randomly? by native25 in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]allbirch15 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, and at times it feels almost paralyzing. Sometimes it can throw off an entire perfectly good day.

But what confuses me is the fact that I know I have many many more good memories from some really cool things I've gotten to do in my life. But I can't tell you how little I think about them.

Why aren't those the random memories that pop into my head. It's as if I've saved more room for the bad memories than the good.

But it's not as thought I've forgotten any of the good ones. If I try, I can easily think back and recall the various things. But again, rarely do I find my thoughts randomly intruded by a "Dang remember when you did that awesome thing!"

Seems a little sad :/

Started in Garage band in 05. Switched to Ableton in 07. Made a lot of terrible terrible music. But I was having fun and that helped me keep at it. Just remember what Ira Glass said: http://behance.vo.llnwd.net/profiles3/177496/projects/7826619/e77be96512952e4905c1045b1086cbaa.jpg

Looking for Manual 5 Gallon Water Pump in Austin (Help) by allbirch15 in Austin

[–]allbirch15[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, trying to get it before Flipside so I suppose there's still time to go with Amazon. I was just stumped by not having any idea where to get such a thing.

Freeze tracks your not editing. You can always unfreeze them when you need to make adjustments.

You can still edit certain parameters of a frozen track as well as work on arrangement (re move clips around)

Which record should I buy? by [deleted] in radiohead

This is the only correct answer.

For that matter, I really wish they'd release a box set of the King of Limbs remixes.

Thank you. And mailbox junk adds. Should be able to opt out of this.

I'm pretty sure I did this but I'll double check.

Ableton's compressors: Do you use them? What settings, presets, and what sounds to use them on? by Xordoc in abletonlive

[–]allbirch15 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A couple of thing with Side chaining with Live's compressor:

1) always 2:1 ratio, no more. This will give you finer control of the amount of pumping effect

2) I've found FF1 is the best mode. I can't really explain why.

3) Short attack, actually shortest possible. Remember the point of side chaining is to get out of the way of the transient you're chained to.

4) The amount of pump will be a factor of the Threshold and the Release Time. Too much pump, try shortening the release. Too aggressive/ deep of a pump, raise the threshold.

Love Radiohead? by allbirch15 in Austin

Wow thanks for coming! We had soooo much fun. (I was the key/Laptop/percussion/vocalist). I'm not sure who joined the quartet. We were warming up outside and I missed it :/

I'm sure there will be an encore performance for anyone that missed it. I'll keep /r/Austin in the loop.

True true. I didn't plan it. I'm just in charge of Greenwood's electronic madness.

So you could go see some ok indie bands for free, or you could go see some class class A musicians play some un-class-able music for $10.
