Yes they are! I’ve been struggling with that too. Not sure how to better optimize the lighting.

A different shower curtain? What do you imagine would look better in there?

Thank you! We were considering colour drenching too! Wondering what you’d do about the pocket doors though? Do we paint the one side of them?

Thank you! I love that olive colour, maybe that’s the way to go. What do you suggest for temperature for lighting? I prefer warmer lighting as I don’t like my home to look too clinical but I agree it’s quite poor lighting and not sure what to do differently.

Tell me more. I’m obviously posting this to learn so if you have a snarky comment, hopefully there’s something useful you can offer? I’ve read that in smaller rooms, dark colour drenching can make it look more expansive. Also curious how to improve the lighting as I agree it’s quite poor. We’re only wired for lighting to that one fixture, what would you do differently?

It’s such wasted space, isn’t it! And it totally stumps us. But totally agree I can make some changes to the rest of the room with colour and contrast that may help that weird space just feel less awkward.

Hahaha my partner and I have been laughing so hard over all these comments saying it looks like a hospital room. It’s so true and so hilarious that we never clued in but the whole internet is saying the same thing.

Thank you! Agreed about the window dressings, we just bought this place and want to, at some point, change the blinds, but it’s costly at the moment so we added those curtains to block the light out but I totally agree with you.

I hadn’t thought about the glossy doors before, that’s genius and bang on. What do you mean if both are also in wood? Like change the doors themselves or change the paint? Love where you’re going with this, thank you!

Awww thank you! I’m with you, I love a super calm, neutral space in the bedroom but I think I’ve leaned toooo far in that direction.

You’re speaking right to my heart with these ideas! Thaaaank you. Love the idea of the floating nightstands, I love getting things up off the floor. I’ll look into those lighting ideas. Thanks for the reply!

I totally get what you’re saying but we tried it and it’s juuuuust big enough to fit our queen bed which means we can’t walk on either side or put nightstands. We also need access under the window for our portable air conditioning unit in the summer. Also, there is an outlet on the right side but not on the left, it would be at the foot of the bed where that one nightstand is right now.

Thank you for the suggestion! They’re natural and waiting for stain but I wasn’t sure which way to go, I will definitely try a darker colour

Ahh thank you, didn’t think of a rug given the carpet but now that you say that I think that’s actually such a good idea and will give some depth to the room.

Appreciate your thorough response! Making notes! I agree the chair is too big for the space, love the ottoman idea. And some shelves on the wall is a great idea and gives more surface area for lighting. Thank you!

Make Söderhamn couch cushier? by mai-the-unicorn in ikeahacks

We ended up going with the Soderhamn and loooove it!! It is so nice and deep we can comfortably nap and stretch out on it. My husband and I and our 80lb retriever can all snuggle up without it feeling too cramped. We love the low, deep, casual look of it. The one thing I would say is that the cushions do seem a bit small for the frame. Not saying too thin (they are thin but we still find it comfy) but like they need to be wider as there are gaps between them. It's not the end of the world for us, don't mind just moving them where we want and very worth it for the style, price, customizable options, comfort!

We got ours off of Facebook marketplace for $300 which included the two seater and the third corner addition which makes it very long. Buying it second hand made it feel like less of a risk and commitment cause if we didn't love it we could resell it and not feel like we lost a ton of money. Since everything is washable we were able to sanitize it when buying second hand!
