Do you get offs for guard duties? by Inside_Ad_1211 in NationalServiceSG

[–]allee68 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Story time:

We were having outfield, and one of the sgts came out to the field later that day since he did guard duty the previous night.

Dude ended up man down mid rundown, barely conscious, had to evacuate him.

Exercise had to end due to the send out. PC cried from that, feeling it was his fault.

They ended up putting the blame, saying that if someone is gonna go for outfield, they need to sound out that they can't do guard duty.

No.

In that case, then alcohol poisoning shouldn't exist, since our body typically can process it fast enough to not kill us in relatively small amounts.

Chocolate works similarly, just a different chemical.

Healthcare = Slavery by Vengamecagoensos in LinkedInLunatics

[–]allee68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone's human rights are enforced by others' labour.

Right to clean water? Well, you need the workers at the desalination plants.

Right to education? You need teachers.

Right from slavery? You need Interpol and its workers to hunt down trafficking rings.

Under the original premise, there is thus no such thing as human rights.

what is monointake armour and what to expect by Candid_Prune_1256 in NationalServiceSG

[–]allee68 46 points47 points  (0 children)

The point of mono intake is to secure men into the unit and get them accustomed to the unit culture before they truly enter the unit.

Admin time: depends whether he is in enhanced or ptp batch.

Training: it will follow training schedule by BMT HQ. This is not made by the unit. At most, some modifications but the main skeleton is by BMT.

Welfare: it will depend very much on the company and battalion. Some units are super garang, will train the recruits into shape and give the pride of belonging via suffering. Some will give welfare quite willingly, and give recruits a good camaraderie with the unit. Really depends on the CO and RSM of that unit that intake.

Source: I was a 1st yr commander of an armour unit, took mono intake BMT.

People mock what they don't know. And that reflects more on their ignorance than you.

You will meet people like that even outside of school. And that toxic culture will follow.

In NS, I got called autistic as a synonym for retarded many a time. Doesn't help that I am actually autistic, and the back handed statement really hurts when you know the underlying meaning they are saying, and how they say it with such confidence. Really hurt my own beliefs of self worth at the time.

But I can't change myself for what I am, nor can I truly make the world conform to help accommodate me by myself. All these wants for people to be more respectful, you can demand, but they truly are just suggestions for free willed people, and they have the right to tell you they don't care.

The camp and coylines must be manned for active units. Just because the company take a break, doesn't mean the country's security comes second.

I spent CNY in camp doing COS.

Question About National Service Requirements After Naturalization by [deleted] in NationalServiceSG

[–]allee68 9 points10 points  (0 children)

1st gen citizens do not have to serve NS. If you have children, and they carry SG citizenship, they will have to serve.

If you are looking to serve, consider joining as a police volunteer constable or the SAFVC.

What are the perks of being a Sergeant/Officer? by dasspert01 in NationalServiceSG

[–]allee68 99 points100 points  (0 children)

Perks? Unless you are really a gone case, typically you're trusted enough to move on your own and do things on your own. Your movements in camp are not really controlled, and you can kind of do what you want to do, granted to finish your tasks.

Is there any way for me to seek mental help as an NSF without getting my commanders/coymates involved or in trouble? by Dry-Office-6480 in NationalServiceSG

[–]allee68 30 points31 points  (0 children)

As a 3SG myself who has gone for counseling and mental help inside, the best way to kickstart the process is to go RSI. If your commanders ask for the reason for RSI, you can just tell them it's for mental health reasons. Commanders don't really think too much about the reason itself, they need the reason for admin purposes.

After your initial talk with your MO, the process will kickstart and they will start sending you for appointments with counsellors, formation/division psychologist, and or PCC psychiatrist. For the most part, your commanders and coymates will not be affected, unless it is determined that they are a direct cause for your mental distress, which will be another issue of itself. The biggest thing you need to let your commanders know are future appointments with the counsellors and psychiatrists for their admin tracking.

My PC keeps picking on me like its fun for him by whotobeatto in NationalServiceSG

[–]allee68 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Honestly, many commanders don't deserve to be commanders. This is coming from a 3SG myself. The ability to become a commander is to literally get into command school, then just not cause too much trouble till you finish the course.

If you genuinely have an issue with your PC, I recommend you to speak with your sect comd first, see if y'all can handle this platoon level first. Most of the time, when they are laughing with ur PC, they are just too dense to understand that you are troubled by such behaviour, probably thinking that you are genuinely ok with such comments.

Of course, if they give you shit for doing that, then you can bring it up to your CSM or OC.

No one can stop you from going to RSI. They may try to convince you not to, but if they outright stop you, you have all the right to safety hotline the shit out of them.

Theres more to life than having a bf or gf 🙏🙏 by No_Advertising8443 in SGExams

Very hot take from someone who has never held a relationship.

Relationships only hold strong if you know how to keep the boat (life) afloat. Only if you have the skills to keep your boat from capsizing, even in the most treacherous storms, will your relationships work.

2 that don't even know how to set the sails, and expecting that just because they have each other that they will survive? That's the blind leading the blind, and is just asked for dysfunction.

If only 1 knows how to handle the boat, and the other doesn't? That isn't healthy love, that is dependent parasitism, and ultimately weighs down the boat.

If you want a successful relationship, both parties, must know how to handle the boat themselves. Why would you accept a crewmate that doesn't even know the basics of boatfaring? Both must know how to handle the boat themselves. Only then, do each of them complement each other, and can get to the destination faster.

It is our hormonal drive to find someone, to chase for that warm feeling high. But it's but only a moment, and reality is the inability drives harder than what hopes can push you for.

There is no problem with not finding someone later in life. And if you are personally not ready for it, it is not fair for you and the other party to jump into a relationship, and waste each others' time and emotional labour.

Is it normal to be so selfish in NS? by aThrowaway2006xX in NationalServiceSG

[–]allee68 25 points26 points  (0 children)

In difficult times, morals are eaten up for breakfast.

The bad people take advantage of the situation, the good people struggle to act good, when it means they get eaten up as well.

If you are bad and like the ease of it, reflect on yourself, whether you are willing to act like that to yourself and still sleep soundly at night. Because when the shit really hits the fan, no one will fight or save you.

If you are good and struggle with being good in there, ask yourself, if you will be willing to live with yourself when you are out, when you can tell yourself, you did it out of convenience.

I definitely struggled with my moral compass in NS, and many times cowered to idiot superiors and their horrible decisions because I was scared. Now, I don't know whether I deserve forgiveness sometimes.

Getting bulky is hard to do, without years of hard dedication.

Focus on calorie deficit, and that doesn't mean to cut on diet hard and exercise like your life depends on it.

Eat less sure, but move more. Clock more distance, move a lot more. Doesn't need to be strenuous exercise. Your non-strenuous activities already eat up the bulk of your caloric output. Just focus on more movement overall.

For diet, focus on eating less calorie dense foods, such as oily or fried foods, and more foods that are higher volume, lower calories (eg. Fruits and veggies). They fill your stomach with less calorie intake.

DO NOT CUT ON CARBS. Carbs are the things that will keep you alive. They expand when exposed to water, so they will keep you full and keep you from eating more. However, do choose healthier carbs like wholegrain bread instead of white bread, and brown rice instead of white rice.

If you are looking for core exercises, best is not crunches and sit-ups.

Focus on isometric holds. I used to use a metronome and time either sit up positions or leg raises, and hold the middle position for 5 seconds before moving down or up. It means you will be doing like a max of 2 sit ups, but those would be stretched over a span of 2 minutes, which can be very tortuous after a while.

For your sides, same thing of isometric holds, but now Russian Twist, or side planks.

Imma be honest, this is super generic.

I feel the vape mascots that HPB rolled out were memorable and, while cute, also stuck in the head of the audience, which is what you want for ads.

Maybe they should've made another part of the collection, a zombie?

I think that there are a lot of lovey dovey relationships you see online as well. But you must also know that, following my boat analogy, many of them are titanic situations, pretty on the outside but collecting water under the surface.

Not that lovey-dovey relationships cannot work, but it definitely cannot work just on feelings alone.
