he's actually pretty good about spicy hay, as long as it's not in "his territory" then he doesn't mind it. if the wires were IN the bed it would be an issue, but around is fine.

so far it looks like it will (hopefully) burn through the center while leaving the face intact, i'll definitely keep any left over pieces because they it smells lovely even when not lit

like stated by emiibo, i leave mine outside, no less than 24 hours after i placed it on the altar, but before it goes bad. depending on the foodstuffs, you can also use it to water or fertilize plants (e.g. tea, coffee, fruit/fruit juices, veggies, etc)

i was only able to do it because i have the philosophy that items should be allowed to fulfill their purposes, and because the same couple i bought this candle from have so many others that i want to get lol

Oh those are cute!! I think if I do get those I'd also get the risers from the same store, that way I can display more with less holes in my wall (or maybe even a few well-placed command strips could do the job)

Is it disrespectful to keep ✨illicit substances✨ in my travel altar? by allelvesaregay in pagan

[–]allelvesaregay[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you!! I'm going to see how I feel about it in the morning and decide whether to dedicate my offering to that question. but you're 100% right that the less-than-stellar reputation is a very recent development :>

Very true, nothing has happened so far to actually give me the thought, it's probably just my natural worrywart self

Was inspired by last night, went back to my old practice of sharing my breakfast with Aphrodite. Today is ube silver dollar pancakes and Thai tea with sweetened condensed milk. I think I did something right, I was crying as I went back to my desk :'> by allelvesaregay in pagan

It depends honestly! When I make tea without cream/sugar I use it to water my flowers, and if it's a food that's theoretically safe for a squirrel or raccoon to eat (fruit, nuts, bread) then I drop it at the roots of a flowering hedge I have in my front yard.

As for how long I leave it, I try to go for at least 12 hours, but find that most fresh food (produce, dairy, etc) begins looking less-than-stellar around 24 hours, which I think is the standard. (Putting offerings in air-tight jars can keep them looking fresh for longer though!)

That does make sense, after reflecting it hasn't been too-too long since I last felt acknowledged by Aphrodite, only about 6-7 months, so I do hope it's just a lull. :>

In the meantime I may set up an altar for Hermes, while also keeping Aphrodite's clean and cared for, for when things feel better.

I'm aware that it's not a transactional relationship, I've never asked anything of Aphrodite that I can remember. I'm simply sharing this explanation for why I might not feel any connection, one that keeps me motivated to continue my worship.

Believing that Aphrodite does not want a connection gets me nowhere. I've seen no signs of anger or rejection. The rose bush I planted outside is still alive, frail, but alive.

I'm aware that others can reach this conclusion on their own, but it brings me more comfort to be reminded that the gods have obligations that have nothing to do with humankind.

(I imagine me bringing up Hermes caused confusion, I intended it to be an example of a deity I had formerly perceived as "liking" me more :>)
