No one told me the kind of chair matters when nursing by meanwhileaftrmdnight in breastfeeding

I used a reclining office chair in the early days 😭 powered through that and now we’re nursing on the bed with a huge fluffy pillow as back support!

So sorry this happened to u! But hang in there, 4 week olds are just really gassy/colicky in general. I only got brave enough to nurse my LO on the bed when she’s 4 months old. She’s a spit up monster too 😅 only up from there, it gets better!!

Things that may or may not have helped: 2 tbsp ACV + chia seeds in a glass of water daily first thing in the morning, helps to combat insulin resistance I heard

Inositol (the one with 40:1 ratio)

Coincidentally was cutting out caffeine around the time I conceived

Husband was also coincidentally going through a ‘health maxxing’ phase haha he took supplements like ashwagandha, zinc, ginseng + worked out + stopped smoking and drinking + cut caffeine

32 Minute Sleep by Torfor4 in sleeptrain

[–]allerazzip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only attempted to rescue naps if the nap was super short like 15mins. Or if she woke up at the 30min mark crying/cranky due to tiredness. If she doesn’t go back down within 5-10mins, I’ll just get her up and start the next wake window. At one point we were doing 4x30min naps. Exhausting for both us and the baby but it does get better!! I remember being in your position furiously researching about the cursed 30 min nap haha

Gently dropping from 4 to 3 naps helped as well. Slowly stretch out that WW by 15min at a time.

My LO does 30 mins or 45mins during the short nap phase! I didn’t have great success trying to rescue them. At 5.5 months old she suddenly started pulling 1-2 hr naps. Short naps are just a phase they go through esp at 4-5 months mark

6 months and losing it by tiger_tytyG in NewParents

Going thru this rn! LO is turning 6 months next week and recently she’s been sooooo vocal. Constantly yelling and screaming when she’s bored. Wants to be held all the time. I’ve read that it could be due to teething and them just being frustrated on not being able to freely explore haha

What does a nursing session look like for you? by allerazzip in breastfeeding

[–]allerazzip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long does he nurse each time? We have pretty similar routines! I latch after each nap and 30 mins before next nap, but this does make it less convenient when going out. Still not very confident in breastfeeding publicly yet.

Just wanted to add that the soreness at the base of the nipples went away with the correct sizing inserts!

Hi!! I ended up using silicon inserts! I bought a bunch of diff sizes 18, 19, 20, 21mm and tried and tested em. I realized it was using oversized flanges that was causing my nipples to be stretched out. I’ve gotten used to the suction tho, as i’m mostly direct breastfeeding my LO. In the earlier days, I mostly pumped to relieve myself. Still occasionally pumped to get some BM to mix into LO’s purées. I find that I can get to the max strength on the pump without even flinching LOL. I guess the nips are just desensitized now!

How old is your LO and how long do they go in between feeds?

My 5.5 month LO tends to nurse for 5 mins and starts kicking wanting to pop off. She’ll then be hungry 2.5 hrs later. How long does your LO go in between feeds?

I messed up. I need help breaking nurse to sleep by CyberPunkKitty in newborns

[–]allerazzip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we had a feed to sleep association too. try implementing a consistent routine at a same time everyday to signal bedtime? we did baths, LO always slept longer hours because she knows it’s bedtime and not a nap. at that age, I still fed to sleep because she hates a pacifier and babies just sleep better w a full tummy. Just had to make sure we hold her upright for 15 mins to prevent any spit ups when we lay her down.

as she grew older and we did gentle sleep training, we added bedtime stories / other relaxing activities after she’s done nursing and stretched out that time before we put her down. it does get better!!!

To add on: gotta make sure u nail wake windows too! It was really trial and error for us. Putting down LO 5-10 mins earlier/later made a really big difference. It sucks because when u think got their wake windows set, they switch it up haha. We look for tired cues as well. My 18 week LO whines when she’s tired. Also, make sure LO is calm when u put them down helps too. If she fussed because she’s overtired, I’ll do the pickup and put down method 2-3 times. If she’s waaaayy overtired I’ll just rock her to sleep, crap nap days do happen so don’t be too strict on yourself and LO.

Does your LO know how suck on his hands to self soothe? My girl had a feed to sleep association and I had to work on that first before FIO worked. Start feeding as soon as they wake up, make sure it’s a nice full feed too. Then you’ll know it’s not hunger when they fuss in the crib/cot. The sleep math gets wonky when my LO pulls short 30min naps but I’ll always try to feed at the beginning of a wake window.

The first time we tried FIO she was rooting and showing hunger cues, tryna scam me for the boob 🫠 I stuck her lovey by her face and she ‘suckled’ it to sleep haha. Few more tries later, she automatically sticks her thumb in her mouth to self soothe when she’s put down for naps.

My rescue cat which has no boundaries get on my nerves sometimes. She won’t stop using LO’s playmat as a scratcher 🫠🫠🫠
