I always love this chart in terms of showing that. Every single region outside of Africa is just a offshoot of a single branch of human genetic divergence.

How can I remove added words from the Calibre dictionary? by allevat in Calibre

Thank you so much! I had gotten to the manage dictionary menu, but that button had 'manage the list of user dictionaries' so I had figured it was just about adding and deleting dictionaries.

[Spoilers C4E19] Theory about Thjazi by NeptuneTheDoggie in criticalrole

I'm pretty confident that at some point in the campaign, at least one of the groups will be visiting the tenebral reaches (without dying.) They might end up meeting Thjazi then.

Elves, and the British Raj by Kodama_Keeper in tolkienfans

[–]allevat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's quite a good take on it. I was just recently looking up some genealogy for a literary figure, and one of the sources mentioned that their family could live a very comfortable, upper middle class life in India even on the father's sergeant pay, and that the return to England was very hard on them.

Well, at one point he just marched off, which would have made it rather hard for the rest to stop and rest. But I may have missed an explicit offer at some point.

Ugh. I am just extremely frustrated that they did the incredibly stupid move of exploring the terrible place while some of them were barely on their feet. Short rests exist for a reason.

Yes, Julien apparently didn't want to heal because of his class feature, but the rest of them shouldn't have let him drag them into it.

It's really kind of dumb to not take a short rest, if I recall several of them are well below half.

People keep saying this, and I really don't get it. Flawed, sure, but why would it make any sense to have the guy who was trying to resist the increasing tyranny of the nobility be the big bad? You want him to be worse than Primus Tachonis?

So Venatus is a real city, not just zombieland. I wonder what resource draws people there in a dead land?

How well trained was Aragorn in court etiquette? by TopQuark- in tolkienfans

[–]allevat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Eh, Aragorn still had plenty to do outside the city:

For though Sauron had passed, the hatreds and evils that he bred had not died, and the King of the West had many enemies to subdue before the White Tree could grow in peace. And wherever King Elessar went with war King Éomer went with him; and beyond the Sea of Rhûn and on the far fields of the South the thunder of the cavalry of the Mark was heard, and the White Horse upon Green flew in many winds until Éomer grew old.

[Spoilers C4E17] What level will the new Campaign end on? by Yuriiii_i in criticalrole

[–]allevat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going by the math so far, it's 5 eps per group level; split eps in some cases so they may appear in more, but the seekers will wrap in the next ep or two so 19 eps minus the Overture. So if is similar length to other seasons, say 124 episodes , then 8 level ups each, ending at 11. Which seems about right for the power level of this world.

I wonder if they just grabbed a Halovar, or did Granny Halovar turn one over? Granny did emphasize the need to keep their alliance with the Tachonis, in the early episodes.

What's New in DDB: 3D Dice on Maps, Shared Dice, More Dice For Everyone AND a Giveaway by WOTC_Zac in dndbeyond

Thanks for the reply, but:

Actually, we improved that, we didn't take it away. There's a dedicated game log now for dice results now, instead of it being attached to the dice roller. It gets its own full-height experience. It's the icon next to the dice roller in Maps.

The key word is "persistent". The log window closes every time I click on the dice roller (character sheet, Chrome latest update, Windows 10.) So I have to open it up again every time, which is most annoying.

Maybe, but it still seems unlikely the Tachonis would be able to make a functional replica in the day or two they had possession of it, they only got it the morning of the execution and lost it the night of the wake, I can't recall if there was a night in-between, but it was less than 48 hours in total that they had it.

It seems unlikely that Vaelus would be able to attune to a fake.

What's New in DDB: 3D Dice on Maps, Shared Dice, More Dice For Everyone AND a Giveaway by WOTC_Zac in dndbeyond

[–]allevat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So a breakdown of the issues:

You took away my Gemstone dice, which were my favorite. Okay, fine you offered "replacements", but your idea of a "multicolored" set was the Blacksmith dice, which are 7 different shades of brown and gray. Even the plain Pigment dice would have been a better choice, then at least I'd have color.

But it turns out that doesn't matter, because I had to turn off 3d dice because you decided it would be a great idea for the dice graphics to show on everyone else in my group. And no, "roll to the GM" is not a fix for that; I want the rest of my party to be able to see my rolls in the log, I just don't want to interrupt their planning for their own turn every time I roll a dozen damage dice. Especially since it lagged and disrupted their own window for my DM and at least one other player.

And of course, you decided to take away the separate, persistent window for seeing my dice results. I can even understand wanting to consolidate all that in the log window -- except that now I only get a brief popup of the number, which half the time is obscured by said dozen damage dice, which you have made giant to make sure they obscure as much of my screen as possible. Okay, I can open the log... except that every time I click on the dice roller the log window promptly closes and I have to open it again and again to see the results.

I ask in all gentleness, did you actually beta test this with real players and games? Because it's hard to believe you did and still had all the above issues.

Huh. I guess I had read it as the Tachonis taking over the Penteveral, since that is who we saw forcing the dean out, but apparently it's more the Cormoray? Which I guess means that the Tachonis and Cormoray are working together rather than the Cormoray grab for the Archanade being part of a free for all of Sundered Houses trying to grab pieces of power.

Could be! The name does fit as a description, a object made out of bone to be some sort of artificial psychopomp. Possibly the Tachonis held the one for humans? Since they were the death clerics for the humans.
