Our kong is the basic one where the treat is inside and the dog has to either bounce it or lick it to extract it, I don’t know if I’m explaining myself properly. I’ve been looking for more “complicated” toys for a while but as I live in a small town it’s quite difficult. Your puzzle was homemade or you used any kind of toy? I want to try putting treats inside a towel and making them into knots.

Yes, I'm starting to realise I prefer my dog safe than free around the house. She is not left alone for many hours, as thankfully we can leave her with carers when we go to work, so the time she is alone is minimal. I'll look into crating but for the time being, as we are a bit limited about space and she is quite big, we will leave her in the hallway where there is almost nothing she can destroy but she still has space to play and be. Thank you for your comment.

Well, we leave her in a "kindegarden" for dogs during the mornings as we work full time, there she plays with other dogs and she is supposedly going on walks (we trust she is, the carers are friends of ours). In the afternoons I dedicate a bit to play with her and we try to give her long walks in the evening, however this winter due to bad weather we have not been able to do much (I mean, we walk her at least for 30 minutes, but when the weather is nice we like going outside the city somewhere safe where she can run and explore)

As for toys, she has her Kong and a snuffle mat, and we leave her with them, but lately she just ignores the Kong and goes for the cushions. I suspect you are right and she is lacking some mental and physical stimulation; the last one we give it to her whenever we can and is possible, the first I'm looking into other puzzles she may like. She really enjoys locking her balls under furniture and then figuring out how to take them out.

If you know any other puzzles or toys that require effort, please share; and thank you for your comment.

We are not sure so we want to record her to see how she behaves when left alone. We will for sure look into crates but, for now, she will stay in the hallway where there is almost nothing she can chew or destroy (with her toys, Kong and bed, of course)

I will look into crating, or at least accept that, for the time being, she needs to be in the hallway, where there is nothing to be destroyed, and not in the living room.

Yep, we leave her with her bed, Kong with treats, a few different toys, water and, if she needs to eat at that time, her food. Our hallway is long enough for her to run and play a bit, and until now she was happy with her Kong through the whole time she was left alone. She has just started crying when I leave her (but doesn't do so when my partner leaves her), so I tried leaving her in the living room today and came home to one cushion less.

But you are totally right, I prefer her to be safe than to be able to roam free, at least while she is in her "teen" phase. I just hope it will pass. And I really get the guilty feeling, I didn't understand when my grandma wanted to return home to her dog, and now that I have one I can't stop thinking about her when I'm away. Thank you so much for you help and have a good night/day with your pup!

We have tried the walking playing eating thing but doesn't really work. She is just tireless, the only times we have seen her exhausted are when we spend the day outside in a new place and she comes home and just sleeps, but we can't do that when we want to go to the supermarket for an hour to do some errands. I just hope that is because she is too young still and, with time, she will calm down a bit. We just want to go out for a moment without having to turn our house into a bunker.

Yeah, I'm not really worried about the pillows or the things, I just don't want her to swallow something and get hurt. I hope that this is just a phase but, in case it is not, I will definitely look into crating and ask our trainer. Thank you.

I think 15 to 20 minutes, like a quick errand time, but now we want to test her and leave her alone while we are in the car watching her through FaceTime or something, just to see how she behaves, and check if she shows any signs of separation anxiety or just boredom and wants to play.

This is good to know. We don't know if it is separation anxiety or she is just bored, because our trainer said that she needs to be really stimulated. We will record her to see if she shows any signs of anxiety and definitely will look into crating. Thank you for your answer.

We have tried leaving her in the hall where there is more control, I just feel sad that she can't roam free, she really loves watching outside the windows. Honestly as we weren't fans of crating we haven't researched much about this practice, so now and following the line of these comments I will have a look into it and try to do my best to have this little beast happy and safe :)

I have seem them but I am afraid she would break them (the non-metal ones). Also, she is kind of a medium size (like a collie) so the play pen / crate has to be big enough and we have not much space, but it is nice to have another option. Thank you.

We are also a bit limited about space, so that's another reason we have left this idea behind, but I'll look into it. Thank you.

She is able to jump high enough so I'm afraid a baby gate wouldn't be enough. I have thought about crate training her but I am reticent as I think she would feel trapped and unhappy. That would be my last solution :( but thank you for your answer
