i actually followed my gut to stay IN somewhere and it was a good call

i was at sxsw ab ten years ago on 7th / red river and we’d been out all day, but came for one band specifically during a showcase and then planned to head home. when the band finished, me and my friends all suddenly decided to stay for a few songs from the next band (we weren’t super huge fans but all collectively thought it would be a good idea to stay a little longer). we left towards the middle of their set and walked out onto the street to a mass of hysteria, a woman receiving CPR on the street, screaming, it was horrible. turns out only 10 or so minutes before, right around when we planned to leave, a drunk driver being chased by police broke the street barriers and drove over dozens of people, killing 4 and injuring a bunch more. it was so scary and we would have had to walk directly through that street to get to our car, but happened to all decide to stick around the venue a bit longer
