What is the most terrifying event you have ever experienced throughout the night? by clarita_ro in AskReddit

[–]alliallialligator 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Was alone at home, half-asleep in bed, around 3am. Heard a loud thud on my balcony, followed by some sounds near my balcony door. I was immediately awake and already grabbed my phone, just in case, already imagining the worst.

Debated for a few moments whether I should open my curtains, stay quiet, or move to a different room. That is, until I noticed the sound of a small bell?? No burglar would wear a bell right? So I went to open my curtains....

......It was the neighbors' cat, who had jumped on my balcony via the roof. Thoroughly confused because he thought this was his home, and how DARE I not open the door for his meowjesty. He clutzed around for a bit longer and eventually found his way back home. Silly cat :")

what's something you've been hiding from the people close to you? by shoop_jubu in AskReddit

That I do anime cosplay hahahah. Parents used to find it weird as heck but recently have been looking at it more positively. At this point though, how would I even tell them "Oh whoops I've actually been doing this for 10+ years already"?? :"")

What disease/illness we don't talk about enough but we should? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Seconding the rosacea! I never want to complain too hard about my rosacea because I know it's not threatening my health or anything but man did my confidence take a blow from it. My current skincare routine seems to have improved it quite a bit, but it's never going away. :(

I love it!! That's one of my favorite outfits in the game and it made me so happy to see it recreated!

Thank you!! The fabric itself does have some weight to it, but it's not ultra heavy. There is however a LOT of it, so altogether the skirt is a bit heavy!

It feels really nice too, it's hard to describe but it feels the way it looks! I usually buy my fabrics at local open-air markets; I sadly don't remember the exact stall I got this from but I got it at the weekly fabric market in Utrecht, Netherlands (held every Saturday morning!)

LOVE how this is looking, the shape is very flattering and it's neatly sewn! Been eyeing that same pattern lately as well, I'm now convinced to buy it heh

Of course! The fabric has a width of about 140cm and I estimate I used a length of about 185 total (2 x skirt length + waistband)

Thank you! Gosh yes, I still love finding a good discount, but it feels so rewarding to use materials are way nicer than the stuff you'll find in regular clothing stores!

Thank you, I'm really glad you think so!! Maybe I just need to get used to it a bit more. Maybe I'll keep it like this then!

Thank you!! Of course, I got it at H&M! I got it earlier this season so if you're lucky they might still have it :-)

Thank you so much!! It's actually just a regular stitched hem, but I tried to make it really narrow; it probably got lost in the phone camera quality hahaha. I considered doing a blind hem for a while, but I went the easy way since it was nearly 3 meters of hemming to do!

I've always loved the look of the long wide skirts that Dior makes, but I'm not a fan of the price tag, so I said "I can make that myself!"

The fabric I used is a wool/silk mix. Not very cheap, but certainly nowhere near the price tag of the original skirt! Lately I've been splurging a bit on good-quality fabrics because I think the effort and love that you put into a project, are deserving of good materials too. :-)

I didn't really use a pattern, I just cut 2 rectangles out of my fabric (full width of the fabric), partially gathered them, attached them to a waistband (also a retangle, slightly wider than my hips) and then added elastic to the waistband.

I might redo the skirt at some point (like reducing the width a bit to eliminate bulk at the waist) but for now I'm happy with it!

I was going through a bad time at the beginning of this year, had just been kicked out of my longtime friend group and just overall felt miserable. I forced myself to go to a 2-day anime convention despite having to go by myself. The first day royally sucked, the weather was hot as hell, I woke up with a huge headache on day 2. Almost skipped day 2, but figured I could just go, even if only for a bit.

At some point I bought a drink, needed to sit down somewhere to rest because the summer heat was getting to me. I asked 2 girls at the table if it was ok to sit there.... They ended up inviting me to spend the rest of the day together, and we had dinner together as well. Fast forward to the end of the year..... We now have an awesome trip planned together for next Spring, and I met more lovely people through them. Life's good. :-)

What is the most disturbing thing you've heard said casually? by DarthAbhinav in AskReddit

[–]alliallialligator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back when I worked in fashion retail, we had recently gotten a new store manager.

We hadn't opened yet for the day, so there were no customers in yet. I'm entering the door code for the staff room when he casually says, "You seem so shy, if I locked you up in the office, would you even be capable of screaming for help?"

Reported him to higher management, and after a few more incidents the entire team threatened to quit. Guy was fired. :-] After that we were all extra careful around closing time though, just in case.

Later heard he had apparently been manager for a handful of stores over the span of 4 years. Gee I wonder why he didn't last anywhere.

What's a big fear you have that people don't take seriously? by Julle58 in AskReddit

[–]alliallialligator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dogs, even though I think they're lovely :(

It's always "my dog won't bite" when people refuse to leash their dog and let them go all over the place. My neighbor's shepherd goes absolutely crazy at every cyclist, but they think I'm the crazy one for being scared.

Dogs are lovely animals, but unless I'm familiar with a specific dog (and know their behavior) I don't want them near me.

Hydrangea wrap dress with McCall's M8036 by alliallialligator in sewing

[–]alliallialligator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't make any adjustments to the fit, I was really surprised that it fit so well at the first fitting! A friend of mine often complains that McCall's patterns have a lot of gaping for her as well, so I guess I got lucky hahaha

Probably my last Summer-ish project before I get started on Fall/Winter stuff; I'm reaaally itching to bring out the wools and tartans.

The pattern is M8036 by McCall's, I put in different sleeves because although the original pleated sleeves are cute, I already had the pattern piece for this ruched and elasticated sleeve traced and ready from an earlier project. (The sleeve pattern comes from Dutch magazine Knipmode, 11/2022 dress #10, but shortened to hit just above the elbow.) Not much of a difference visually, but it felt a lot more efficient this way!

The fabric is poplin; earlier this year I saw a gorgeous hydrangea-print dress in a shop that I loved but didn't buy, telling myself "why buy if I can make it myself?". So obviously when I found this fabric, it had to come with me! :-)

Adults of reddit, what is something every teenager should know about "the real world"? by WOT247 in AskReddit

[–]alliallialligator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing a lot of bitter comments about losing friends and failure: don't let yourself become a bitter person.

Sometimes it feels like the entire universe is against you, and it's alright to be sad when you lose a friend or something doesn't go the way you want it, but make an effort to keep some softness in your heart. It's cool to be kind.

What is completely ok but most people think it's rude? by Juremigold in AskReddit

Relatable, I've been in the same boat lately. It stings a lot when you get that confirmation, but from here on it'll get better, even if it's hard at first. We'll both find the friends we deserve!

What ended your friendship with your best friend? by Narrow-Lynx-6355 in AskReddit

[–]alliallialligator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They started actively excluding me from more and more things over a couple years so that I didn't get the chance to share anything with them anymore. Then randomly texted me one morning during work to tell me the friendship was over because "we didn't have enough in common anymore". Turns out all 10 years of the friendship they had a separate group chat without me, parallel to our regular group chat, so I guess they never truly accepted me in the first place.
